- Steel cap welded over cistern in summer 1991 with a continuous three-eighths-inch weld.
- Cap bowed upward four inches at the center and was cold and wet on the upper surface.
- When lifted, water stood fourteen inches from the rim, approximately 800 gallons, cold and faintly mineral-scented.
- The cistern was sunk eight feet into caliche and had no pipe connected and never had one.
- The Pecos River tributary along the eastern fence had run completely dry in April 2008 during the regional drought.
