Winter 1944, upstate New York. A young woman named Elara checks into Maplewood Sanatorium, not for tuberculosis but for what the doctors call melancholia. She cannot stop dancing—not in the ballet studio, not in her room, but in the dark hallway outside Ward C, at exactly two in the morning. The night nurse, a woman named Grace who has worked at Maplewood for eight years, watches from the station as Elara moves without music, without shadow, without leaving footprints on the linoleum. Grace tries to understand, tries to document, tries to forget. But when she follows Elara one frostbitten night to the locked ward's end, she finds a door that should not open—and a room where the air is still warm with the memory of a performance that ended forty years ago. This episode is about the dance we cannot stop, the rhythm that finds us in the dark, and the places where memory refuses to lie still.
