We’ve all had the experience of packing up for a long trip. Many of us have perhaps packed to move permanently to a far distant place. So, it should not be difficult for us to imagine what the Jewish exiles were doing in Babylon when I left you yesterday in Ezra 1:7, about 538bc. King Cyrus had issued an edict that ANY Jewish captive, anywhere in the Persian empire, was free to return to their homeland with specific instructions to rebuild the city of Jerusalem and especially the great Temple of King Solomon which had been destroyed by King Nebuchadnezzar in 586bc. (2 Chron. 36:22,23)

  • 25.05.06 “Freed to Rebuild Jerusalem!” (Daniel 9:1-3; Ezra 1:1-5)
    2025/05/05

Have you ever stood in a place which has a dramatic history? Did you stand there looking around awed by what you understood had taken place there many years, perhaps centuries before? Join me again in Jerusalem 2000 years ago as the wonderful and traditional Jewish “Shavuot” (Pentecost) festival had become a radical, chaotic, spiritual revolution! For the past few days, we’ve joined that dramatic, historic event recorded for us in Acts 2. The Holy Spirit of God had come from heaven in great power and anointed the followers of Jesus, who then spoke the Gospel of Jesus in languages they did not know, but languages well known by the Jewish pilgrims who had come to Jerusalem from the far reaches of the Roman empire.

  • 25.05.05 “Contagious Christianity” (Acts 2:42-47)
    2025/05/04

I have two questions to begin our week: * Did your weekend include a significant worship experience? * How will your weekend experience serve as a catalyst for how you live your life this week no matter where you are in the world? Please don’t rush past those two questions. Why? Because if your weekend did NOT include a significant, spiritual worship experience, why not? And if the worship experience you had this weekend will NOT serve as a spiritual catalyst for your week, what was its value?

  • 25.05.03 “Conviction of the Soul”
    2025/05/02

“Conviction” is a significant word, isn’t it? Have you ever been convicted of something so powerfully that it changed your life? Yesterday I left you in chaotic Jerusalem, with a huge crowd of people mesmerized by the disciple Peter and a brief but very powerful message he spontaneously gave which explained the miracle of Pentecost to those stunned Jews who had come running from all directions, ‘amazed and perplexed’ by what they heard and saw! (Acts 2:12) Peter’s stunning message concluded with this declaration: “Therefore, let all Israel be assured of this: Almighty God has made this Jesus whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.” (Acts 2:36) Its meaning was abundantly clear to this huge crowd of Jews, most of whom were pilgrims who had come to Jerusalem for the Jewish “Shavuot” Festival, also known as Pentecost. The long-awaited Jewish Messiah was declared by Peter, and proven by God, to be this Jesus of Nazareth and they had crucified HIM!

  • 25.04.30 “Arrival in Power” (Acts 2:1-12)
    2025/04/29

I’m sure you’ve had the wonderful experience of an anticipated ARRIVAL. Perhaps you waited at an airport or train station and finally your loved one appeared with other weary travelers. Or maybe you waited for a check that was promised to be in the mail. Of course, pregnancy is all about waiting and the wonderful arrival of a new baby. Life is filled with waiting and arrivals so today let’s look at one of the most significant arrivals of all time. It has probably touched your life in a big way!! I left you yesterday with the disciples and friends of Jesus waiting in Jerusalem about 2000 years ago. They were waiting for something they really couldn’t describe, nor did they know exactly how it would happen! Jesus had told His disciples to wait for the gift My Father promised, which you have heard Me speak about. For John baptized with water but in a few days, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 1:4,5)
