Welcome to the Madison County Milk House, hosted by Samantha Field the Madison County Public Information Officer. This is where we talk about the big topics both North and South of Rt. 20.
In this episode we sit down with Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz and the newly appointed Museum and Communications Manager of the National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum Johnathen Rockwell.
This October you are invited to trace the footsteps of 104 abolitionists who traveled from Canastota to Peterboro, and formed the New York State Antislavery Society. The Fifth Annual Walk will take place on Saturday, October 10.
The National Abolition Hall of Fame and Museum is located in the Smithfield Community Center, the building in which the inaugural meeting of the New York State Antislavery Society was held in 1835. There you can learn about abolitionists from across the nation. Peterboro and the Community Center played major roles in the abolitionist movement, and the freedom of many slaves.
