Genesis 16 What happens when we get tired of waiting and decide to take matters into our own hands? Genesis 16 shows us the consequences of Abram and Sarai trying to accomplish God’s promise their own way. But in the middle of the mess, we also meet the God who sees us. This chapter challenges us to stop rushing God, trust His timing, and obey Him even when waiting is difficult.

Genesis 15 deals with something every believer will face: waiting on God. God promised Abram a son, but Abram still had no child. Yet in the middle of the waiting, God told him, “Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward” (Genesis 15:1). Then we see one of the greatest statements of faith in the chapter: “And he believed in the LORD” (Genesis 15:6). Abram didn’t have the promise in his hands yet, but he trusted the God who gave it. Can you trust God when you’re still waiting for Him to fulfill what He promised?

Genesis 14 shows Abram returning from a great victory, and instead of taking the glory for himself, he recognized that his victory came from God. When the king of Sodom offered him the goods, Abram refused, saying, “I have lift up mine hand unto the LORD, the most high God…that I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet” (Genesis 14:22-23). Abram understood that God—not man—deserved the glory for what had happened. When God gives you the victory, who gets the glory?

Genesis 13 reminds us that the people we stay connected to can have a powerful influence on our walk with God. Abram and Lot had to separate because their possessions had become too great for them to remain together, and Lot chose what looked best to his eyes (Genesis 13:10-11), while Abram trusted God with what was left. The chapter challenges us to consider not only what we are choosing, but who we are allowing to influence our choices. Who are you plugged into—and are those connections helping you get closer to God or pulling you away from Him?

Genesis 12 is a chapter about faith that requires action. God told Abram to leave his country, his kindred, and his father’s house and “go…unto a land that I will shew thee” (Genesis 12:1). God didn’t give Abram every detail before he went—He simply told him to trust and obey. Sometimes God leads us one step at a time, and faith means being willing to go even when we don’t know exactly where He is taking us. Are you willing to go where God tells you, even when you can’t see where the road leads?

Genesis 11 shows us what can happen when our desire to build, accomplish, and be recognized becomes more important than simply obeying God. The people said, “Let us make us a name,” but in their desire to make a name for themselves, they were moving away from God’s purpose for them. It’s easy for us to do the same thing—to build our careers, our reputation, our families, or our own little kingdom while forgetting who gave us the ability to build in the first place. The question is not whether we will make a name, but whose name are we trying to make great?

Genesis 10 can seem like a chapter that is simply a long list of names and nations, but there is something important happening beneath the surface. God is showing us how the nations developed and how His purposes continued moving forward through generations of people. In this episode, we’ll slow down and look at why even the names and details we might be tempted to skip are part of God’s bigger story—and why our lives and our generation matter in the story God is continuing to write.

Genesis 9 brings Noah and his family out of the ark and introduces the covenant God made with Noah. The rainbow became a reminder of God’s promise, but the chapter also reminds us that even after a great deliverance, people are still capable of failure. In this episode, we’ll look at the faithfulness of God, the importance of remembering His promises, and why our confidence should be placed in who God is rather than in our own ability to remain faithful.
