  • Case #25: What REALLY Happened to Kirby Carpenter?
    2026/10/26

Wednesday, November 30, 2022. Dry Creek, Mississippi. Kirby Carpenter, 36, a gold, silver and coin dealer and a father of two, comes home from a grocery run. According to investigators, it was the last time anyone saw him alive.

Two days later he was found behind his garage, covered with a curtain, with a toolbox on top. His cameras were off, a satchel he used for money and documents was missing, and there were drag marks from where he was killed.

Three people were charged with his murder. One is in prison for life. The other two are not serving active prison time.

This is Episode 25, and in it I tell the story from the court record, local reporting in Pennsylvania and Mississippi, and my own interviews with Kirby’s family, including his sister, Kaysie Barnes. In my view, recent national coverage did not tell the full story. This episode covers:

  • Case #24: Erased, The Disappearance of Joanne Coughlin
    2026/10/19

Friday, December 27, 1974. Two days after Christmas, in Youngstown, Ohio. Joanne Elaine Coughlin, 21, an aspiring actress and Youngstown State student, had plans that evening: a health spa in Boardman, then her boyfriend’s house, then a movie.

According to reporting, she was never seen again. Her car, a 1968 Ford Fairlane, has never been found. Her family had her declared legally dead in 1985. Nearly 52 years later, her case remains open, and no one has been charged.

In this episode, we look at:

    • Who Joanne was, from her family and the people who covered her case
    • Her last day and the sign-in sheet her family has questioned
    • A reported scream near the quarries off Villa Marie Road, and why that account has never been tied to her
    • A bank book that surfaced days after she vanished
    • The theories, and why they are not evidence
    • A mother who paid for a private search of the quarries
    • What detectives are doing now, including NamUs, DNA and dental records
    • Why a case like this can still be solved

Everything in this episode is drawn from documented sources. Anything alleged, reported or unconfirmed is identified as such. Nobody has been charged, and nothing in this episode suggests any particular person is responsible.

  • Case #23:The Quiet Case on South Ogden Street, The Unsolved Murder of Rose Piechocki
    2026/10/12

On June 14, 2007, Rose Piechocki, 67, was found in a child’s swimming pool behind her home on South Ogden Street in Buffalo’s Lovejoy neighborhood. According to the Buffalo News, police announced four days later that her death was a homicide. More than 19 years later, I can’t find an arrest or a named suspect, and the public record doesn’t say how she died.

In this episode, I walk through who Rose was, the neighborhood once known as Iron Island, what was reported in the first days (including a 2007 reward and a comment about “persons of interest” that I could not fully confirm), what Buffalo was dealing with in 2007, and the long list of things we still don’t know. Nobody has been charged. Everything here is drawn from published sources, and anything unconfirmed is labeled as such.

    Rose deserves answers.

  • Case #22: The Man Who Walked Out Alone, The Murder of Jennifer Cohen
    2026/10/05

This episode looks at who Jennifer was before the headlines. Her brother remembers a sister who skipped school just to spend the day with him. She got sober in 2001 and stayed sober for close to a decade, then relapsed and lost custody of her sons. We walk through what is documented, what the reports disagree on, and what remains unverified, with attribution on every claim. We also cover why cases like hers stall and the questions still worth asking.

If you recognize the man in the footage, or know anything about Jennifer's final hours, contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). You do not have to give your name.

If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction, the SAMHSA National Helpline is free, confidential, and open 24/7: 1-800-662-4357.

  • Case #21: They Called Them Devil Worshippers. They Were Murder Victims. The Corpsewood Manor Killings
    2026/09/28

Two men built a castle in the North Georgia mountains by hand, over six years. In 1982, they were robbed and murdered in it, for a fortune that never existed.

This week, host Cindy Gersch is doing something different, a closed case, not an unsolved one. Charles Scudder and Joey Odom's killers were caught within two weeks and convicted. But in the process, the men who murdered them, and the sheriff's office investigating their deaths, framed the victims as "devil-worshipers" in the press within days. That label has followed this case for more than forty years, while the two real men underneath it have mostly disappeared from the story.

This episode traces who Charles and Joey actually were, what happened the night they died, and how bias shaped the way their murder was covered, tried, and remembered.

Say their names. Charles Scudder. Joey Odom. Kirby Phelps.

  • Case #20: The Pond, the Shoes, and the $100,000 Reward. The Disappearance of Josh Adams
    2026/09/21

A pond. A pair of shoes, placed neatly. A hypodermic needle beside them. And a $100,000 reward that's never been claimed.

On May 20, 2013, 25-year-old Josh Adams had just returned home to Jackson County, Georgia, after completing six weeks of drug rehab. That day, he was caught on surveillance cashing a stolen check, then vanished. His car was found abandoned on his own family's land, his phone, wallet, and cash all left untouched inside. Four days later, his shoes turned up by a nearby pond. His family drained it themselves. They found nothing.

Investigators have worked this as a homicide case for over a decade. Josh's sister, Shannon, has never stopped fighting for answers, and earlier this year, she doubled the family's reward to $100,000.

If you have any information about Josh Adams, contact the Jackson County Sheriff's Office at 706-367-8718, or the anonymous tip line at 706-367-3784. Your identity does not have to be disclosed.

    Say his name. Josh Adams.

  • Case #19: He Packed His Bags and Vanished Into the Night" The Disappearance of Crishtian Michael Hughes
    2026/09/14

He packed every one of his belongings in the middle of the night and walked out into a city he barely knew. He never came back.

On February 7th, 2013, 20-year-old Crishtian Michael Hughes vanished from San Francisco while visiting friends from his home in San Diego. He had no car, almost no money, and his phone went silent after one last text sent at 1:18am. He never boarded his flight home.

Crishtian is one of five young men who disappeared from the same region of California within just a few years of each other, Jackson Miller, Cameron Remmer, Shawn Dickerson, Crishtian, and Sean Sidi. Their families have stood together at the same vigil, year after year, still asking the same unanswered question.

This episode was reviewed with Crishtian's mother, Kim Nepote, before release.

  • Case #18: The Answer Was Home All Along, The Disappearance of Tiffany Daniels
    2026/09/10

For 12 Years, Everyone Believed a Stranger Took Her: The Disappearance of Tiffany Daniels

On August 12th, 2013, Tiffany Daniels left her job as a theater technician at Pensacola State College, telling her supervisor she needed a few days off. She never explained why. She briefly returned home, but her roommate, on the phone at the time, never saw her. She's never been seen or heard from since.

Eight days later, her car was found abandoned in a parking lot at Pensacola Beach, her bicycle, purse, and phone still inside. Two fingerprints on the vehicle have never been identified.

For over a decade, the leading theory was human trafficking, a stranger, a random act along Interstate 10. A private investigator who has spent years on this case now believes otherwise, she thinks Tiffany knew whoever was responsible. And someone who was supposedly helping search for Tiffany has recently retained legal counsel, with no explanation given.

    Her case remains open.

If you have any information about what happened to Tiffany Daniels, please contact:
