  • Episode Four (Mr. John LeBar)
    2023/03/09

In this episode we meet John LeBar. John is a true scholar-athlete; a great American.

Originally from Kansas, John landed in Durham in 1964 via Texas and Missouri. He earned his Doctorate in Education from Duke University where he coached both varsity fencing and tennis. He then served as Duke's Director of Undergraduate Studies.

John is the author of four books. His most recent, with Allen Paul, is College Sports on the Brink of Disaster. The Rise of Pay-for-Play and the Fall of the Scholar-Athlete. First published as Marching Toward Madness and now recently updated, John presents comprehensive reforms to end cheating and corruption in college sports; to put academics first.

John is a Veteran. He honorably served as a Soldier in the United States Army both overseas and in the United States.

  • Episode One (Ms. Dorothy Broughton)
    2023/02/16

In our first interview, we meet Ms. Dorothy Broughton. Ms. Broughton is a member and Deacon at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Durham.

This interview spans three episodes - from childhood in Monroeville, Alabama through transitioning to NYC and upstate New York, then down to North Carolina.

While my intent is to boundary episodes to 45 minutes I couldn't help letting this episode be longer - the stories are that rich and meaningful!

A special thanks to Ms. Broughton for allowing me to spend so much time with her and learn some valuable lessons along the way.

Thanks for listening as well as your support. Feedback always welcome....voicesofdurham@gmail.com.

    Enjoy the show!
