Hello! Welcome back for episode three of Kajibana. we do apologize for this short episode this week we do hope to get back to our regularly scheduled full length episode as soon as possible but for now please enjoy! TW: Child abuse, child death, Torture

What is up my crime crazy people? We are back with episode three of Kajibana. Kajibana’s or red spider lilies are associated with death and final goodbyes in Japanese culture. Because red spider lilies are associated with death, it is believed that one should never give a bouquet of these flowers. Some legends have it that if you see someone whom you may never meet again, these flowers will bloom along the paths you take. Kajibana focuses on the most heinous of crimes, crimes against children. Children are our most precious beings and something to be protected at all costs. They are our future, our hopes and when one is murdered it affects us all.

let's dive in. I recently watched the movie an American Crime which was based off of our story today. It was dark and scary in a way that speaks directly to anyone who watches it. So if you're ever confronted with what we are about to discuss today the only advice I have for you is this: don't look away and don't stay silent. So let's get to it.

What is up my crime crazy people!

Welcome to Veil of Humanity where we explore the thin line between conscience, fragility, and accountability. ! We are your hosts Melonie Yelvington and Kimberly Taylor

TW: Giving fair warning that this case will discuss child’s death and mental breakdown. Please handle with care. We will list resources in source notes if you or someone are needing help. Please please reach out to someone, anyone, even to us. Seeking help I can’t stress enough on how important this is. Just know someone cares about you.

On a quiet June morning in 2001, in a modest home on the outskirts of Houston, Texas, a tragedy unfolded that would shock the nation — and force America to confront the darkest corners of mental illness, motherhood, and faith. Thirty-six-year-old Andrea Yates, once described as a loving, devoted mother of five, dialed 911 and calmly told the operator she needed the police.

Within minutes, officers would discover a scene that defied comprehension — each of Andrea’s five children, from 6-month-old Mary to 7-year-old Noah, lifeless in the family bathtub.

What drove a mother — by all accounts intelligent, compassionate, and deeply religious — to commit an unthinkable act?

Was it evil, or was it illness?

And how did her husband, Rusty Yates, and their shared belief system intertwine with a tragedy that seemed both spiritual and psychological?

This is not just the story of a crime.

It’s the story of a woman at war with her own mind — and a system that failed to see her slipping away.

So, grab your favorite beverage and a pillow to scream into as we discuss this very sad, tragic case.

Just so you know…we are a fan of the cursey words and will probably use them.
