Vanyfox shares his journey as a DJ and producer in the batida scene, a homegrown form of percussive dance beats influenced by Afro-Portuguese genres like kuduro, kizomba and zouk. Raised on the outskirts of Lisbon near the Quinta do Mocho neighborhood (home to many batida pioneers including Marfox and DJ Nervoso), based in France, Vanyfox discusses his early memories, his influences and the emotions, experiences and production techniques that influence his music production. We talk about the deep questions behind his Melodias e Choros EP, working with Montreal's Moonshine crew, J Dilla, the lineage of the coxes and foxes, his approach to DJing and his unique experiences traveling to Zanzibar, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia and beyond. Hosted by Vivian Host (aka DJ Star Eyes). For more info and extras, visit Ravetothegrave.org or Instagram @ravetothe.grave.
