Most people assume that following Jesus should make life easier, but the final Beatitude flips that assumption completely. Jesus calls the persecuted blessed, not pitied or unfortunate, but genuinely blessed. The reason believers face opposition is straightforward: a life transformed by Christ naturally shines light into dark places, and darkness does not welcome that. Importantly, Jesus is not calling us to be rude or argumentative. He is calling us to suffer for righteousness and because of our identification with Him. When persecution comes, we are promised something that cannot be taken away. The kingdom of heaven already belongs to those who follow Christ, and nothing, not affliction, danger, or loss, can separate us from His love. Those who suffer for righteousness are not victims. They are citizens of a kingdom that cannot be shaken.
