Co-hosted by a PhD in clinical neuropsychology (with current inactive license in Oregon: OR 3181) and a former journalist, we examine how our environment and habits affect cognitive decline and dementia prevention. Using Spain and Europe as our canvas, we look at a familiar modern dream: leaving behind an accelerated, disconnected, or over-optimized way of life. We explore the psychological reality of moving abroad, navigating life as a foreigner, and integrating into local culture in places like Valencia. By analyzing what different cultures truly optimize for, the series challenges Spain-curious minds, expats, immigrants, and listeners worldwide to step outside their default settings and build a more intentional and connected life wherever they live. 👉 Subscribe to drop the default narrative and untether your life. This media is for educational purposes only and not psychological advice. Co-host holds an inactive Oregon psychology license and offers no clinical services. Messages are unmonitored for crisis support. In an emergency, contact local services (e.g., 911 US / 112 EU).Michelle Crowther and Serana Chester 個人的成功 心理学 心理学・心の健康 旅行記・解説 社会科学 自己啓発 衛生・健康的な生活

  • The Brain Science of Narcissism & the Gen Z "Selfie Culture" Debate | The Untethered Podcast
    2026/07/16
    Hosts: Michelle & SeranaEpisode Summary

Is Gen Z truly the most self-obsessed generation, or are they just operating within the digital parameters they were given? In this episode of Untethered, Michelle and Serana look past the "selfie town" stereotypes to examine the underlying neuroscience and genetics of narcissism. Serana busts some of the biggest pop-psychology myths, explaining that Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) has a relatively high genetic heritability rate and distinct physical markers in the brain, such as reduced gray matter in specific regions. They explore the differences between grandiose and vulnerable narcissistic personality disorder subtypes, dissect the "diathesis-stress model", and fact-check whether different cultureshave higher rates of individual vanity.
