The Baskin-Robbins owner, Mrs. Stuckey, offered to help Debra escape her abusive situation, and Debra planned to leave with her younger brother the following day. Youth Shelter Escape Experience Debra shared her experience of escaping a difficult home situation at age 14. After her father refused to accompany her due to concerns about his epilepsy, Debra ran away and was taken to St. Mary's Shelter, where she was offered placement in a group home. The court ultimately granted her permission to live at St. Mary's group home in Mobile, Alabama, where she thrived and later obtained a business degree before moving to Texas. Mental Health Journey and Support Debra shared her personal journey with mental health, beginning with her work at the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas and marriage, followed by her 14-year-old child's behavioral health issues. She sought support through her church's mental health ministry, which led her to a family-to-family class at NAMI and a Christ-based mental health support group.
