  • Episode 1 - Queerness Is... and an interview with Omar Sakr
    2025/08/08

Queerness, activism, and art. This season, meet Kayla Hill (she/her) and Alex Trezona (they/them), two amazing queer voices from Western Sydney. Across three episodes, they’ll explore how this cultural moment has shaped them as young queer people. They’ll wax lyrical about queer liberation, queer thriving in Western Sydney, and why building community is its own kind of activism.

In this first episode meet Alex and Kayla as they introduce themselves and ruminate on the nature of queerness. After a short introduction they interview esteemed poet and novelist, Omar Sakr.

Omar Sakr is an award-winning poet, novelist, and essayist, raised in Liverpool to Arab and Turkish Muslim migrants. He is the acclaimed author of a novel, Son of Sin and three poetry collections, notably The Lost Arabs, which won the 2020 Prime Minister’s Literary Award. Omar graciously came on the podcast to chat about the intersection of queerness, activism and art.
