The Ukrainian MiG-29 pilots — known as the “Ukrainian Tridents” demonstration team — appeared at the Minot air show during the 1992 North Dakota Air Expo at the North Dakota State Fair in Minot.
The aerial show took place on Saturday, July 25, 1992.
The event featured two Ukrainian MiG-29 “Fulcrum” fighters shortly after Ukraine became independent following the collapse of the Soviet Union. It was one of the first North American appearances by Ukrainian Air Force pilots, and they performed dramatic maneuvers like the Cobra and Tail Slide.
The pilots identified in reports from that tour included:
- Mykola Koval
- Volodymayr Kandaurov
- Valeriy Soloshenko
That 1992 Minot show also featured an F-117 Nighthawk, A-10 Thunderbolt II, B-52 flyover, and other aircraft.
An interview promoting the show was conducted on KLTC Radio by Ray David. It features the Ukrainian-speaking pilots, local historian Agnes Palanuk, and others.
