Utah Valley University students are preparing for a peaceful protest this Thursday, one year after Charlie Kirk’s death on campus, demanding no permanent memorial and calling for unity over division. Organized by Students for a Democratic Society, the demonstration outside a private memorial service will feature clear signs rejecting right-wing ideology and bigotry. Despite national conservative figures labeling protesters as “Antifa,” SDS leaders stress their commitment to nonviolence, with training focused on de-escalation, open body language, and weapon-free protest. The university is closing campus for reflection while deploying increased security to ensure safety without disrupting normal operations.
