Today, August 13, is World Organ Donation Day, a moment to pause and honour those who choose to give the ultimate gift of life.

In the 175th episode of the Human Library Audio Podcast , I sit down with a woman who embodies this philosophy in its purest, most courageous form: Dr. Thankam Subramonian.

A Gynecologist and Obstetrician with over three and a half decades of medical experience, Dr. Thankam’s commitment to humanity extends far beyond the walls of her clinic:

• Pioneering Legal Change: As Karnataka’s very first altruistic kidney donor, she fought a landmark decade-long legal battle that transformed organ donation laws in Karnataka. Thus paving the way for non-directed donors to save strangers' lives.

• Frontline Humanitarian Service: As a volunteer physician with Doctors Without Borders, she has delivered critical care in high-conflict zones, including Yemen and Afghanistan
  
• Continuous Giving: A regular blood donor with over 75 donations to her credit and a Phase 3 human trial participant for ICMR’s Covaxin.
  
• Living Fully: An avid marathoner, certified yoga instructor, and the recipient of the 22nd P. Kesavadev Diabscreen Kerala Health Award 2026.
  

Her journey is a powerful reminder that true impact is built on resonance, courage, and unconditional giving.

Dr.Josie Mc Lean, Is one of the three co-founders of the CCA and part of CCA Australia. Previously President of ICFA , Josie is passionate and deeply concerned about the future we all face as the wicked, interlocking collection of crises facing humanity unfolds. She works with a vast variety of people and organisations, but they all have one thing in common – they too are future oriented and share her concern. Her focus is on cultivating environments where learning, dialogue, and a shared sense of purpose thrive, enabling organisations to adapt and flourish in the face of complexity and its accompanying uncertainty.

Eve Turner is a coach, supervisor, researcher and author, and has been involved in setting up three communities: The Global Supervisors’ Network, The Climate Coaching Alliance and the Sustainability Coaching Coalition which has 13 professional body signatories representing 300,000 coaches, mentors, coaching psychologists, and supervisors. She has had three careers, as a classical musician, in the BBC where she ended up running a large journalistic division with 250 staff, and her current role. Eve has written or co-edited several books, articles and chapters and won ten awards: most recently the 2025 Lifetime Achievement award for Coaching and Supervision from Coaching at Work magazine and the 2023 EMCC Global Special President’s Award for contributions to supervision and society.
