The U.S. women’s basketball team crushed France 97-79 to claim the FIBA World Cup, avenging last year’s one-point Olympic thriller. Gabby Williams, France’s fiery captain, dropped 20 points, 7 assists, and 3 steals in a stellar tournament, averaging nearly 19 PPG — but it wasn’t enough as the U.S. exploded for 30 points in the third quarter to pull away. Williams kept her head high, praising France’s growth and pledging to elevate their global standing. With Breanna Stewart and Jackie Young leading the charge, the U.S. dominated the second half, while France’s coach lauded Williams’ leadership — calling this loss a stepping stone to future glory.
