    👌 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲

Q: I feel like my blog has become bloated and confusing for our website visitors. Can you suggest a simple way to reset and relaunch our blog section?

Roger and Pascal will share why they enjoy blogging so much, the many benefits to individuals and businesses, and their recommended simple steps to review, reset and relaunch your blog section.

    🗣️ 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿

Q: I have been told I need a Speaking page on my website, I have never done this before, what should I include?

Roger and Pascal share ideas about the key elements of your future speaking page, including simple and clever ways to impress and be helpful to event organisers who will be in touch with you.

    🍿 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱

    Toy Story (1995)

Roger and Pascal have fun looking back at the impact and legacy of the first fully computer-animated feature film released 30 years ago!

Produced by Pixar, when it was still a small and relatively unknown company, the film explores universal themes, such as the tension between old and new (Woody vs. Buzz Lightyear), which metaphorically reflects broader societal and technological changes.

The film’s marketing and merchandise rollout was not aggressively planned from the start. Pixar was primarily focused on creating the film rather than merchandising or theme park tie-ins.

They worked on the Toy Story experience: the storyline, the music, the voices, and the animation of course which was so unique at the time

This led to the ‘perfect’ trailer with all the key elements and the right structure across 90 seconds.

LESSON: marketers and content creators MUST prioritise storytelling and product quality rather than becoming overly focused on marketing tactics or merchandising from the outset.

We look at the marketing of Fright Night, particularly the debate about the Trailer that the Director felt didn’t represent the film properly. The trailer presented it is a a gory horror movie, when in fact it was also a comedy, drama and teen romance feature. Did they originally miss out on a wider audience because of this mistake?

    🍿 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱

    The Menu (2022)

A look back at two clever marketing tactics inspired by the film 'The Menu', the darkly satirical thriller set in the world of exclusive fine dining.

    1. The Power of Straplines:

The film’s marketing leaned heavily on its witty straplines:

    "Painstakingly Prepared. Brilliant Execution."

    "A FINE PLACE TO DI(N)E"

    "ONE PERCENTER DI(N)E HERE"

    "MOVIE STARS DI(N)E HERE"

    2. Inventing Restaurant Review:

To build intrigue, the marketing team “leaked” a fake review from a fictional food critic, supposedly invited to the film’s central restaurant, Hawthorn. The review read:

“Dining at Hawthorn is an experience unlike any other. The chef’s menu is a masterclass in precision, creativity, and—dare I say—danger. Each course is a revelation, but it’s the final act that truly takes your breath away. Five stars for flavour, one star for survival odds.”

These one-liners and imagined restaurant reviews perfectly captured the film’s blend of culinary artistry and sinister suspense, making it instantly memorable.

What is the Circle of Marketing Simplicity?

This special request from Pascal turned out to be an impromptu briefing from Roger, and a timely reminder about his 'Offer - Goal - Activity' model from his book 'Cats, Mats and Marketing Plans'.

    🗣️ 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿

I heard that as a speaker you need to have a signature talk, what is it and how do you create that signature talk?

This is the very question that a delegate asked Pascal at a recent conversation.

Roger and Pascal explore the meaning and definition of 'signature talk' and share their personal advice including whether you should be thinking in terms of 'signature segments'.

    🍿 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱

A look back at two ingenious marketing tactics used to “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back”, the sequel that celebrated its 45 anniversary this year.

    1. The teaser trailer for "The Empire Strikes Back" was filled with nostalgia, featuring Harrison Ford's voiceover in the style of 1950s radio serials and TV shows that inspired George Lucas.

    2. The marketing team cleverly used rumours and misinformation in magazines to protect the film's biggest secret (you know which one!). They published an article in Starburst Magazine that mixed true plot points with false information, such as "Luke killing Han Solo" or "the Millennium Falcon getting zapped into a time warp."
