  • Deeply Rooted Ep. 1 — Shame, Silence, and the Presence of God
    2026/11/04

Welcome to the very first episode of Turning Point's Deeply Rooted podcast, a midweek check-in to help our church family stay anchored to what God is doing in and through this community.

Pastor Josh sits down with Jaiyla, who preached her first Sunday sermon at Turning Point on October 25 about "Worshiping With All of Your Life". Jaiyla shares her journey from growing up in church to saying yes to Jesus for herself at 13, the painful season that followed a move to Spokane, and how community, a recovery group, mentors who'd walked the same road, and the simple habit of reading one verse a day led her toward freedom in Christ. She and Pastor Josh also talk about why women in the church need safe places to talk about pornography addiction, why a worship leader is learning to practice solitude and silence, and how Brother Lawrence found God's presence in a noisy kitchen. The episode closes with Jaiyla praying over our scattered church.

Content note: This episode includes honest discussion of sexual abuse, an abusive relationship, and pornography addiction. Listener discretion is advised for younger listeners.

    John 4:1-9

    John 4:15-26

    John 4:3-43

Point 1: Jesus is seeking you.

John 4:66 Jacob’s well was there; and Jesus, tired from the long walk, sat wearily beside the well about noontime.

Point 2: Shame isolates us from relationship with others.

7 Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” 8 He was alone at the time because his disciples had gone into the village to buy some food. 9 The woman was surprised, for Jews refuse to have anything to do with Samaritans. She said to Jesus, “You are a Jew, and I am a Samaritan woman. Why are you asking me for a drink?”
15 “Please, sir,” the woman said, “give me this water! Then I’ll never be thirsty again, and I won’t have to come here to get water.”
16 “Go and get your husband,” Jesus told her. 17 “I don’t have a husband,” the woman replied. Jesus said, “You’re right! You don’t have a husband—18 for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!”
19 “Sir,” the woman said, “you must be a prophet. 20 So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship, while we Samaritans claim it is here at Mount Gerizim, where our ancestors worshiped?”

Point 3. You Are Fully Redeemed—Called All the Way In

God’s forgiveness is complete. You are not beyond His grace, and you are not the exception to His redeeming power. You are fully welcomed in.

Point 4. Your identity is no longer in shame but the redemption work of Christ.

Are you living in your redeemed identity or are you holding on to an area of shame?
Boldness—“free confidence,” grounded on the consciousness that our sins have been forgiven.
    Hebrews 10:19-25
19 And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. 20 By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. 21 And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, 22 let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water. 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
    Paroxysmos=To motivate
    Parakaleō- Encourage one another
Hebrews 3:13 “But encourage one another every day, as long as it is still called “today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.” but encouraging each other, and by so much more as you see the day drawing near. It is not the work of the minister alone to exhort, but the brothers, and the sisters, too, should exhort one another and seek to stir each other up in the faith and fear of God.-Charles Spurgeon
Who could you connect with this week? Are you living in your redeemed identity or are you holding on to an area of shame?

10/4/26 - All the Way In: Week 2 -One Thing I Know- Pastor Levi Hinshaw

Point 1. What name are you answering to?
    Scripture: John 9
-Right away we see the disciples were focused on the outward situation of the blind man. They were concerned about why he was blind and what caused the blindness.

What Jesus rejects in this moment is the instant assumption that suffering meant someone is to blame.
-Jesus is addressing that what matters is the power of God can be revealed through the miracle that is about to take place.

“The right question, according to Jesus, was “What is God doing in this situation and how can I get on board with it?” Now that is a much better question! In fact, it is the best possible question in the face of the brokenness and impossibility of the human situation.” - Ruth Haley Barton
-Jesus is looking for partnership, not perfection..
-He wants obedience from the blind man, in the form of going and washing in the pool.
-Have you been obedient to Jesus? Is there something he is telling you to go do?
-To them, his name was "the beggar," or "the blind man." That's the name he'd been answering to his whole life.

-What a radical change that he went through. From being seen as a beggar to someone who they couldn’t even recognize.
-Before this man ever believed in Jesus, Jesus already knew his full story. And here in verse eight we see even his neighbors, who lived in proximity to him and spent their life around him, didn’t even know who he was.
-So here he is in the beginning, being seen for his sin and humanity, to now being someone through the power of Jesus that isn’t even recognizable by people who would see him regularly.
-The blind man addresses Jesus as a man. Not God. Not Holy. Not Savior, but man. Keep this in the back of your mind.
-This is really step one in the journey of him being fully transformed.

    Pt.2 / Your one thing
-They were so focused on the rules that they missed the miracle.
-Their initial and instant response was “why was he doing this, and how” not, recognizing the miracle that just took place in front of them.
-Here is the second step the man takes towards Jesus being his savior. He says “I think that he must be a prophet.”
-When he shares this, he is essentially saying that Jesus is a direct representative or messenger from God.
-The third progression of the man seeing Jesus differently!

    Pt.3 Has he found you?
-The fourth time the blind man now sees and declares Jesus as Lord.
-Jesus putting mud on the mans eyes, and having him go and wash off was only part of the healing. It may have healed him physically. Giving him sight, but there was more that Jesus wanted to do for him, and for you!
-V 41. There is something that we can not miss.. Jesus is talking to the pharisees here, the religious elite and he says this.“if you were blind, you wouldn’t be guilty,” Jesus replied, “but you remain guilty because you claim you can see”.
-We have to admit our weakness!
    -Your story is worth telling!
-All the way from the beginning to where you are now. Jesus is working and doing miracles in your life that others are waiting to hear about. As you tell them, there will be naysayers like the pharisees in this story. But don’t let that stop you from sharing the good news!
Dwight Moody said this, and I think it speaks directly to our situation: Real true faith is man's weakness leaning on God's strength.
    1. I want you to recognize the name you have been answering to.
Maybe it's a nickname, a label, or a lie someone told you a long time ago. Bring it to Jesus.
    He knows your whole story.
    2. What is your one thing, and who are you going to tell?
Maybe Jesus took away an addiction. Maybe he met you in a hospital room. Or maybe it's quieter than that. You used to feel alone, and now you know you're not. Your one thing doesn't have to be big and dramatic. It just has to be true.
    3.Has he found you?
Jesus went looking for this man, and he's looking for you too. Have you declared him as Lord?
