President Donald Trump is scheduled to begin the day at the White House with executive time, followed by an intelligence briefing and a policy meeting in the Oval Office. According to the White House press schedule, the president is then expected to travel to Mobile, Alabama, where he will deliver evening remarks at the Mitchell Center before returning to Washington. The White House is defending a new program sending five-hundred-dollar payments to approximately nine-hundred-fifty-thousand Americans who purchase health insurance through the Affordable Care Act marketplace. The administration describes the payments as refunds for excessive fees. The checks are limited to eligible residents in states using the federal marketplace, and will not be distributed nationwide. Foreign policy remains a major focus. President Trump said he believes Iran may be connected to an attempted attack involving a FlyDubai flight traveling toward Israel, although he did not provide evidence and said the investigation remains underway. The administration is also increasing military forces in the Middle East amid continuing tensions with Iran. A personnel decision is drawing attention in Washington. Several reports say the administration is considering National Intelligence Director Jay Clayton for a new White House artificial intelligence leadership position. A White House official said any personnel announcement would come directly from the president and called reports before an official announcement speculation. President Trump also said he rejected a suggestion to replace the Oval Office. The remarks come as the administration pursues major changes to the White House complex, including plans for a new ballroom following the demolition of the East Wing. There is currently no indication that the Oval Office itself will be demolished. Thank you for tuning in, listeners.
