President Donald Trump is scheduled to make an announcement from the Oval Office at two o’clock Eastern Time today. The White House schedule also lists policy meetings throughout the day, followed by a print interview with the president. The administration is preparing for possible additional talks with Iran this week. President Trump says he expects negotiations to resume, despite rejecting Iran’s latest proposal involving the Strait of Hormuz. According to Axios, discussions could begin as early as today, with Qatar helping mediate between Washington and Tehran. Trade and technology remain central to the administration’s foreign policy. The United States and China have released details of an agreement covering approximately thirty billion dollars in imports from each country. The arrangement also establishes an artificial intelligence dialogue led by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and China’s vice premier. Artificial intelligence is also on the White House agenda. President Trump is expected to host Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei for a private dinner. The meeting follows a federal appeals court decision upholding the Pentagon’s designation of Anthropic as a supply-chain risk, restricting military use of the company’s models. The White House has submitted an eight-hundred-ten-million-dollar package of spending cancellations to Congress. Inside Higher Ed reports that the proposal includes reductions affecting migrant-student programs, international education, health research, and other grants. The administration says the cuts target wasteful or harmful spending, while critics are questioning the process and timing. The White House has also released a taxpayer-funded advertisement portraying President Trump’s political campaign as a final battle against what he calls warmongers inside government. The latest reporting indicates that a federal judge has temporarily ordered the administration to restore access for several news organizations previously barred from the White House.
