When Valerie left home in her mid-twenties, she thought she was stepping into a new chapter.

But like so many survivors, the past wasn’t left behind—it showed up again, this time in the shape of a relationship

On the surface, she looked like she had it together: a career as a teacher, a stable life.

But behind closed doors, she was living in a secret storm.

It was the same survival pattern she learned as a child: endure chaos, accept neglect, and convince herself that it was love.

What Valerie didn’t realize then is something many survivors eventually discover—that when the past isn’t healed, it doesn’t stay in the past.

It resurfaces, disguised as love, disguised as fate. And so, what began as a relationship turned into a mirror—reflecting all the buried wounds she thought she’d left behind.

And that’s where part two of Valerie’s story begins.

My next guest is 71 years old. She still rises each day with curiosity, passion, and a deep love for life — proving that healing isn’t bound by age, and growth has no expiration date. She is warm, patient, kind, and with a great personality!

Like so many women, her story began in a family shaped by both love and pain — a tapestry of warmth and joy interwoven with betrayal, violence, and trauma. And yet, she chose to keep walking, keep learning, and keep rising.

For the sake of her privacy, we kept her name anonymous, and we listen to her story of courage.

The only purpose of sharing her story is so that others who may be discouraged on the healing journey, may get the strength to continue.

She has given consent to record and release her story.

    A gentle but important warning.

This episode contains sensitive themes that may bring up strong emotions. What you’re about to hear is a personal story of trauma and healing, shared with honesty and courage.

If you’re in an emotionally tender or vulnerable place right now, please consider whether this is the right moment to listen.

By continuing, you are taking full responsibility for your own emotional well-being.

Remember: you are in charge of your healing journey.

And as always, this podcast is not a substitute for professional counseling.

A while back, a client reached out to me at the very early stages of our working relationship and said, “According to Google, you are a scientist and researcher, how did you pivot into this work?”

And when I shared my journey with her, she said I should share it with my listeners because people seem to be afraid to step into the unknown.

People seem to be afraid to step into what is calling them from the within, from their soul and they tend to stick with what is acceptable in society.

In this episode, I want to first take you on a personal journey—one that began in places I never expected and led me to work I never imagined I’d be doing.

Life has a way of rerouting us… sometimes through loss, heartbreak, or moments we thought we’d never recover from.

And if you’ve ever wondered why healing after emotional abuse can feel like such an uphill climb even with therapy, you’re not alone.

Because here’s the truth: therapy alone isn’t enough to fully reclaim yourself after emotional abuse.

It can help you survive—but survival is not the finish line. In the second part of episode, I’ll reveal the missing link that turns recovery into something far greater.

It’s the difference between patching up the pieces and thriving—not because of what broke you, but despite it.

This is where the real transformation begins.
