Stop trying to be a good Christian man and start training to be one.
You don’t drift into godliness, integrity, or deep spiritual discipline by accident. Just like physical fitness, building spiritual muscle requires an intentional daily routine, structured scripture study, and consistent prayer.
The apostle Paul frames it as athletic conditioning in 1 Timothy 4:7-8 from the ESV: "Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come."
R.C. Sproul reinforced this reality by writing, "Godliness is not a consumer good; it is a commodity acquired only through rigorous spiritual exercise."
Let's pray: Lord, rip away my spiritual laziness. Give me the discipline of an athlete to pursue You daily through Your Word and prayer, training my heart for righteousness. Amen.
What's your non-negotiable spiritual habit every morning? Let me know.
Thank you for joining me on From The Basement. I’m Timothy Andrew. This old basement may be humble, but it’s where I talk about life, faith, and finding God in the quiet, often overlooked places… where we keep showing up for one another, even in the basement.
