NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is firmly pushing for the Portland Trail Blazers to stay in town, calling their potential departure a “failure” and stressing that the aging Moda Center must be upgraded to compete with modern NBA arenas. Owner Tom Dundon seeks public funding—already totaling over $580 million—to cover a $600M renovation, but a finalized lease remains pending. Silver pledged league support to bridge any gaps between owner and officials, underscoring Portland’s long-standing NBA legacy and warning that losing both NBA and WNBA teams would be a major setback. Meanwhile, expansion talks in Las Vegas are underway, with multiple groups vying for a franchise and possible venue options under review. Silver also confirmed NBA Europe’s launch in 2027, advocating for a unified European strategy to attract investors—all while keeping Portland’s future front and center.
