"Tokenomics is not about tokens." J.R. Storment says it five times in ninety minutes, and by the end you understand why he has to.

J.R. helped create the FinOps Foundation and is now an executive leader across the FinOps and Tokenomics Foundations. He also admits he hated the name tokenomics when he first heard it — and then heard three different global technology leaders use it, unprompted, in the same week.

In the first episode of The Long Table, he sits down in person with Amit Kinha to work out what the term actually covers: the whole supply chain from energy to intelligence to value, why it reached boards before it reached engineers, and why the model you pick is the tip of the iceberg rather than the iceberg.

They get into why FinOps is back where it was in 2020, the swing from token maxing to hard budget caps, why token cost alone is like pricing a road trip off the price of gas, what it means to account for non-human workers, when energy becomes the constraint, and what happens to seat-based pricing when the seat is for an agent.

Guest: J.R. Storment, FinOps Foundation and Tokenomics Foundation
Host: Amit Kinha

The Long Table is an in-person conversation series with people doing consequential work in technology and large organisations. Presented by DoiT.
