6:05 Bill Handel calls in after being evacuated from his San Juan Capistrano home. The Norte Fire started near Portico Del Norte in San Clemente and spread into San Juan Capistrano on Santa Ana winds.

6:20 OCFA hit the fire hard from the air and on the ground. A San Juan Capistrano homeowner was about to open a beer when he spotted a hotspot flaring up behind his house.

6:35 OCFA gives an update at its press conference. The fire started around 11:30 a.m. as a vegetation fire. Evacuation orders went out for parts of San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente, homes were lost, a firefighter was taken to the hospital, and power was knocked out across the area.

6:50 Crews keep the fire inside its current footprint and say they have plenty of water. Neighbors jumped in to help, including one man whose grandfather lost everything in the Palisades Fire.
