TikTok is leaning into more interactive, personalized, and AI-aware content this September. Creators can now use voice comments lasting up to 60 seconds, comment polls with as many as five choices, and photo carousels containing up to nine images, according to TechWyse. Those updates are turning comment sections into mini talk shows, surveys, and photo galleries. Music remains TikTok’s secret superpower. Taylor Swift’s new in-app experience for The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore and her single Patient Zero lets fans unlock profile effects, follow official accounts, save the song, and create videos using the track, Digital Music News reports. Meanwhile, viral sounds continue crossing borders, with songs from Indonesia and other regions becoming soundtracks for comedy, food, dance, and “anomaly” videos. Another major trend is the battle against artificial intelligence junk content. TikTok says it has labeled more than three billion AI-generated videos and is testing stronger systems to detect fake accounts and low-quality AI spam. The company also says it removed more than 86 million fake accounts during the first three months of the year, according to Taiwan’s Commercial Times. The biggest headlines, however, involve youth safety and regulation. TikTok agreed to pay Alabama at least 100 million dollars while introducing a two-hour daily limit for users ages 13 to 17, overnight restrictions, stronger age verification, and expanded parental controls. Bloomberg Law reports that TikTok also received a temporary pause in a Texas case involving allegations that it misled families about protecting children from harmful content. And TikTok Shop keeps growing beyond videos. Reuters reports that UPS is partnering with TikTok Shop to offer box-free, label-free returns for American sellers, making impulse purchases easier to send back.
