  • June 25: Yuri Day (百合の日) with Erica Friedman
    2026/06/28

::Magical girl transition!:: This week, V and Emily were asked to finally, after three and a half years of hosting a fandom podcast, tackle an anime episode. So, because we are not anime girlies, we asked THEE anime expert, Erica Friedman, to join us and explain all things yuri! From school stories in the 1920s and 1930s to Sailor Moon's magical girls, and from Japan to the United States, Erica teaches us about the importance of F/F anime and manga and even inspires us to, perhaps, watch an anime film. We also discussed historical viewing lenses, queerbaiting language, '70s Trek fandom of course, and much more in this supersized episode!

  • July 21, 2012: The Ballad of Derpy Hooves
    2026/07/26
Muffins! This week, Emily and V are... surprisingly heartwarmed? Pleasantly shocked? Tentatively on board with a fandom they were very nervous to cover? We're talking about Bronies this week, which is to say, adult (mostly male) fans of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. This week in fandom history, they were acknowledged by their show canon with the inclusion of their fandomwide blorbo, a backgrounder named... well... therein lies the wank. It's a rare thing when both Emily and V agree with all sides of a fandom argument, but this is one of those cases. Everyone was right, and everyone was wrong, and while nobody won, nobody really lost, either. Get your background cels aligned and hoist your mailbag onto your shoulder, because this is the Ballad of Derpy Hooves. • July 1982: "July" Delights Harry/Johnny Fans (And Us)
    2026/07/19

Do ya feel lucky? Punk! This week, V and Emily are so, so, sososo delighted by a new-to-them fandom: Harry/Johnny, which is technically -- technically -- the Dirty Harry fandom, but is REALLY just an offshoot of Starsky & Hutch. Created wholecloth by two fannish friends based on a single look in the middle of a movie that is only the second out of five in a series that is Decidedly Not Slashy, Harry/Johnny was a hugely influential slash fandom of the 1980s and WE LOVE IT SO MUCH NOW. Come be totally delighted with us!

Rereading the Revolution - Whether it was a reaction to the politics of the time or the rapidly approaching end date of the Mayan calendar, the pop-cultural landscape of the early 2010s can be best remembered for one thing: dystopian literature. Join plucky young heroines Daphne and Kellie as they dive into all of your favorite young adult novels and series from this era as we reread the revolution. We lived through it once and are back to recap, review, and discuss all the best and worst that the world-shifting genre of YA fiction has to offer–the sci-fi, the fantasy, and the supernatural–at least until our society crumbles and we have to survive a brave new world.

The Pieces - Alright babes, Bimini is here with their very own podcast! Bimini is challenging the world around us and asking how the experiences we've lived have made us the people we are today. From pop stars to politicians, artists and activists, every week Bimini will be unearthing the moments that have shaped their guests' identities, whilst exploring how the world today is impacting the people we are becoming. • June 14, 2011: #shirtgate, Or: The Gaylor Episode
    2026/06/14

Shake it off? This week, V and Emily delve way too deeply into a corner of the internet that makes them feel insane: #gaylor, which in some accountings kicked off this week in fandom history with Glee's #shirtgate. How? Why? Whomst? Where? It's all been way-too-meticulously recorded for the ages, so join us down the rabbithole. Also featuring Sebastian Stan??? (How could it be a TWIFH episode without mention of Bucky Barnes, tho. To be fair.)
