This Place Called Earth explores the hidden architecture of our lived experiences through psychology, nervous-system regulation, relationships, language, consciousness and social behaviour. Created and presented by James Miller, each series combines evidence, observation, philosophy and open inquiry to examine how we become shaped and how greater awareness, discernment, responsibility and connection may help us change.James Miller 個人的成功 自己啓発

Future of Human Machine Integration - The Cyborg Threshold

Neural interfaces, advanced prosthetics, brain-computer interfaces, neurotechnology and bioelectronics are beginning to change the boundary between human biology and machine capability.

In this standalone This Place Called Earth investigation, developed from my wider Beyond the Human Field podcast series project - coming soon.

We explore what happens when technology stops being something we use and begins becoming part of how we perceive, move, communicate, regulate and act.

The investigation moves through advanced prosthetics, cochlear implants, neurostimulation, sensory feedback, robotic exoskeletons, neural decoding and emerging forms of human-machine integration.

We also examine the deeper questions around Shared Agency, Cognitive Sovereignty, neurodata, cybersecurity, dependence and control.

If a person determines the goal while a machine predicts, corrects or completes part of the action, who acted?

If neural activity becomes technologically accessible information, who gets to interpret it?

The Cyborg Threshold asks whether technological integration can increase human agency while simultaneously creating new forms of infrastructural dependence.

At the centre of it all is one question:

When does technology stop being something we use and become part of what and who we are?

The Weaponisation of Nature - How Ideology Turns Nervous Systems Against Each Other

Ideology becomes dangerous not only when beliefs are wrong, but when identity becomes so fused with them that disagreement starts to feel like a threat.

In this episode of Somatic Inversions - Arc Four, we explore how language, group identity and nervous-system activation can contribute to polarisation, hostility and the breakdown of empathy between people.

Drawing on neuroscience, social psychology, linguistics and philosophy, we look at how threat perception, identity defence and emotional contagion can narrow attention, harden certainty and make opposing groups feel less human, less trustworthy or more dangerous than they actually are.

We also examine how political, cultural and ideological systems can amplify these dynamics through fear, repetition, moral framing and belonging, turning ordinary differences into emotionally charged conflicts.

This episode reframes polarisation as more than an argument about ideas. It can become a physiological struggle over identity, safety and belonging.

Coherence before argument. Regulation before ideology. Connection before conquest.

Somatic Inversions - Arc 4 - The Inversion of Knowing - How “Knowing” Is Used to Control You

“Knowing” is often treated as certainty: a belief defended, a position adopted, or an answer that no longer needs questioning.

In this episode of Somatic Inversions - Arc Four, we explore a different idea of knowing: one grounded in perception, regulation and the ability to remain open enough to notice what is actually happening.

Drawing on neuroscience, Polyvagal Theory, predictive processing and linguistic framing, we look at how claims of certainty can be used to close curiosity, override personal perception and shift authority away from direct experience towards ideology, hierarchy or external narratives.

We also explore how nervous-system state can shape what feels true. Under threat, certainty can become psychologically attractive because it reduces ambiguity. In more regulated states, there may be greater capacity for nuance, uncertainty and revision.

This episode reframes knowing not as rigid certainty, but as the ability to stay connected to evidence, sensation, context and reality without needing to force experience into a fixed story.

Sometimes control begins when someone tells you what you are supposed to know.
