Are you growing a business but feeling like most business advice wasn't designed for women carrying the responsibilities of motherhood, family, and real life?

Do you ever feel frustrated by entrepreneurship content that either tells you to hustle harder or makes it seem like ambition should take a back seat to everything else?

Are you trying to build a profitable business, make smarter decisions, and create profitable business growth—but struggling to find advice that reflects the reality of your life?

If that sounds like you, you're in the right place.

The truth is, building a successful business doesn't require you to choose between being an ambitious entrepreneur and being present for the people who matter most. It requires practical business strategy, strong decision-making, and a sustainable approach to growth that works in the real world.

That's exactly what this podcast is here to help you do.

Hi, I'm Laura Sinclair.

I'm a business strategist, entrepreneur, and mother who believes that motherhood changes how you build a business—but it does not reduce what's possible.

Over the years, I've worked with women entrepreneurs at every stage of growth, helping them build profitable businesses, make better decisions, strengthen their leadership skills, and create success that aligns with their values and responsibilities.

Like many women, I've experienced the pressure of feeling like I had to choose between growing a meaningful business and showing up fully in the rest of my life. I also discovered that most of the advice available to women seemed to fall into one of two categories: business strategies that ignored the realities of motherhood or motherhood-focused conversations that minimized ambition.

Neither felt like the whole picture.

That's why I created This Mother Means Business.

Each week, I'll share practical business strategy, honest conversations, and real-world lessons to help you:

✨ Build a profitable business with confidence

✨ Create sustainable business growth without sacrificing what matters most

✨ Develop a stronger CEO mindset and make better strategic decisions

✨ Strengthen your leadership skills as a business owner

✨ Navigate entrepreneurship and motherhood without shrinking your ambitions

✨ Grow a business that supports your life instead of consuming it

This podcast is for women entrepreneurs who approach business ownership as a profession, not a hobby.

Because you don't need more inspiration.

You need practical strategies that help you build a successful business in the context of real life.

If you're ready to grow your business, think more strategically, and create success on your own terms, hit follow and start listening.

Let's get to work.

  • The Way Most People Approach Balance Is Wrong. Here's What To Do Instead For A Sustainable Business
    2026/09/10

What if work-life balance isn't about splitting your time evenly—but about being fully present wherever you are? So many women are chasing someone else's definition of balance, believing they have to divide themselves perfectly between business and family. But a meaningful business growth strategy isn't built on impossible standards. It's built on creating a business that allows you to be present for the moments that matter most.

In this episode, Laura challenges the traditional idea of work-life balance and shares why she's completely changed her perspective after years of building a business while raising two young children. Rather than striving for equal time in every role, she explains why true balance comes from being fully engaged with whatever is in front of you—whether that's leading your business, spending time with your children, or taking care of yourself.

Drawing from her own experiences, Laura opens up about the realities of entrepreneurship during motherhood, the guilt many women carry, and the practical changes she made to create more presence in both her business and family life. She explains why outsourcing and asking for support aren't signs of failure, but essential components of sustainable business growth that protect both your capacity and your relationships.

This episode offers thoughtful business advice for mothers who are tired of measuring themselves against unrealistic expectations. If you've ever felt like you're failing because your version of balance doesn't look like someone else's, this conversation will help you redefine success and build a business growth strategy that reflects your own values, priorities, and season of life.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why the traditional definition of work-life balance doesn't serve most entrepreneurs.
    • Laura's personal definition of balance and how it has evolved.
    • Why presence matters more than perfectly dividing your time.
    • How asking for support creates more freedom at home and in your business.
    • Why protecting your capacity leads to sustainable business growth.
    • How to stop comparing your life to someone else's definition of success.
    • Practical business advice for mothers who want to build successful businesses without sacrificing presence.

Balance isn't about keeping every area of life perfectly equal. It's about intentionally creating a business that supports the life you want to live. A thoughtful business growth strategy allows you to be fully present where your feet are, creating sustainable business growth while protecting the people, priorities, and moments that matter most.

If this episode encouraged you to rethink what balance means for your life, subscribe so you never miss an episode, share it with another entrepreneur who needs this reminder, and continue building a business growth strategy that's aligned with your unique version of success.

  • Personal Lessons in Navigating Business Growth as a Entrepreneur Mom
    2026/09/07

What if the hardest part of growing your business isn't strategy—but becoming the person who can keep showing up when life gets hard? Every entrepreneur faces setbacks, grief, criticism, and self-doubt. The difference isn't whether those challenges happen—it's how you choose to respond. A lasting business growth strategy isn't built during the easy seasons. It's built by continuing to move forward when life feels anything but easy.

In this deeply personal episode, Laura shares four powerful lessons she's learned over more than a decade of entrepreneurship and motherhood. From navigating grief, illness, business failures, and relationship challenges to dealing with criticism and making difficult leadership decisions, she reflects on the mindset shifts that have helped her keep building a business through life's most challenging seasons.

You'll hear why two things can be true at the same time—you can be struggling personally while still making progress professionally. Laura also shares the perspective-changing lesson that reminded her not to let fear or perfection steal opportunities, why surrounding yourself with genuinely supportive people matters more than ever, and how learning to expect criticism is essential for sustainable business growth.

This episode offers honest business advice for mothers who are trying to build meaningful businesses while navigating the realities of everyday life. If you've been waiting for life to feel easier before fully committing to your goals, this conversation will encourage you to build a business growth strategy rooted in resilience, clarity, and the courage to keep moving forward.

    In this episode, you'll learn:

    • Why life doesn't have to stop your business from moving forward.
    • How to hold space for difficult seasons without abandoning your goals.
    • The perspective shift that changes how you view fear and opportunity.
    • Why surrounding yourself with supportive people is critical.
    • How handling criticism strengthens sustainable business growth.
    • The importance of defining success by your own values—not someone else's expectations.
    • Practical business advice for mothers navigating ambition, family, and personal challenges.

Building a business isn't about avoiding difficult seasons—it's about learning to lead through them. A thoughtful business growth strategy gives you the confidence to keep showing up, even when life feels messy. That's the foundation of sustainable business growth: creating a business that reflects your values, protects your resilience, and continues moving forward one intentional step at a time.

    2026/09/03

What does it really take to build a company in one of Canada's most traditional industries while raising a family? Entrepreneurship is challenging enough, but scaling a business in a highly regulated industry requires resilience, long-term thinking, and the willingness to solve problems others simply accept. A successful business growth strategy isn't just about growing quickly—it's about building something that genuinely improves people's lives.

In this episode, Laura is joined by Laura McKay, Co-Founder of PolicyMe, to share the remarkable story behind one of Canada's fastest-growing insurance technology companies. From studying actuarial science and working in management consulting to leaving a successful career to launch a startup, Laura reflects on the lessons she's learned about leadership, risk, and growing a business from the ground up.

Together, they explore what it takes to disrupt a traditional industry, how motherhood has shaped Laura's approach to leadership, and why building the right team is essential for sustainable business growth. They also discuss the importance of asking for help, surrounding yourself with peers who understand the entrepreneurial journey, and separating your personal identity from the inevitable ups and downs of business ownership.

This episode delivers thoughtful business advice for mothers who are building ambitious businesses while balancing family life. Whether you're launching your first company or leading a growing team, you'll walk away with practical insights on resilience, decision-making, and creating a business growth strategy that allows you to grow with confidence rather than constant pressure.
