When a doctor refuses a basic ultrasound for a suspected blood clot because they "don’t want to do that to Medicare," modern medicine has officially lost its plot.Chapters00:00 Introduction: Modern medicine has lost its way00:36 The Babylon Bee headline that inspired today's story01:34 The Medicare DVT story: When a doctor refuses a life-saving ultrasound05:51 Why insurance is failing everyday health: Cash pay vs. insurance markups08:29 Life updates, the cost of a broken routine, and the power of consistency10:19 Closing thoughts and how to take back control of your healthIn this episode of Think Well, Do Well, Dr. Alan Bradford breaks down a shocking real-life patient story involving a missed deep vein thrombosis (DVT), why the conventional insurance model often prioritizes corporate bottom lines over patient survival, and the hidden financial traps of running standard labs through insurance versus transparent cash-pay pricing. Plus, a brief look at how moving houses wrecked Dr. Bradford's daily routine—and why consistency is the non-negotiable bedrock of metabolic health.

Melatonin and cortisol are supposed to work in opposition: cortisol peaks in the morning, melatonin rises at night. But the moment artificial light hits your eyes, your suprachiasmatic nucleus — the body's master clock — tells your pineal gland to shut melatonin production down. Research shows light as low as about 8 lux, roughly half a typical night light, starts that suppression. A tablet screen is about 100 times brighter than the full moon. That matters, because melatonin signals your mitochondria, supports SIRT3, and fuels antioxidant defense, while in cancer cells it depletes catalase and pushes those cells toward apoptosis. Dr. Bradford also explains why blue light isn't the villain — you need it in daytime — and why modern LEDs cause problems by over-emitting 430 to 450 nanometers while omitting the 480 nanometer band. You'll get real, actionable steps: no screens one to two hours before bed, dim household lights after sunset, quality blue blockers, automated dimming, and a solid sleep mask. Plus a sneak peek at next week's guest. Cutting through the medical BS, one light switch at a time.
