They called them sons. For five years Becky
Hamber and Brandy Cooney told the world they
were building a family. They were caring for
two brothers from Ottawa. They were working
toward adoption.
And behind closed doors they were slowly
taking the life of a 12 year old boy while
torturing his younger brother.
Yesterday — May 6th 2026 — an Ontario judge
delivered a verdict. Guilty. On every single
count.
In this episode of Pearl Ndikum we tell the
story of L.L. and J.L. — two brothers whose
identities are protected under Canadian law.
We cover what happened inside that Burlington
home, how a 12 year old boy was found weighing
48 pounds in a basement bedroom, what the judge
said about the couple who called themselves
his parents, and why this verdict matters.
⚠️ Content Warning: This episode covers
the passing of a child and severe abuse.
Viewer discretion is strongly advised.
