- A baggage attendant, Sylvia Mack, unzipped an unclaimed bag after it sat at Harlow Junction for a full day and found Howard’s powered-down phone tucked under a shirt.
- Howard, a forty-seven-year-old freight logistics coordinator, knew the six fifty-five train schedule intimately and would have booked a ticket if he’d left town.
- That Thursday night Howard was at a regular poker game at Pete Corda’s, made a final notebook entry at 10:38 p.m., then called Kent Sullivan around 11:00 p.m.
- Kent Sullivan’s alibi placed him in Albuquerque, but a fuel receipt from Hatch at 11:58 p.m. put his truck on the route between Harlow Junction and the Mimbres River.
- Forensics found river mud embedded in the suitcase wheels and trace biological material matching Howard inside Sullivan’s pickup, connecting three scenes by three different physical surfaces.
