The re-latched padlock let the condemned door close on him - how did he fall?
In this episode, we follow the discovery at Mariner's Cold Storage and the steps investigators take as they trace who could open that padlock and why. What did the padlock, a single running shoe, and a changed supplier contract reveal about the road to that sealed door?
Location: Harwick Point, Covell County, Maine
Person: Robert Anderson, 32
Date found: November 7
Condition: Body inside sealed, condemned building
Witness/Contact: Leon Walsh, county surveyor
- Leon Walsh re-staked property lines at the condemned Mariner's Cold Storage, cut back overgrowth, smelled something off and called the harbormaster.
- The building had been padlocked and condemned for four years; no windows broken and no door forced when the body was found.
- Forensics found micro-scratches on the padlock shackle consistent with a marine shackle-release tool and the hasp had been re-latched from the outside.
- Robert was a lifelong Harwick Point crab fisherman, ran the same 2.3-mile route every morning, sent a last text at 6:18 a.m. on November 4 and was last alive around 6:30 a.m. that day.
- Rebecca Webb, owner of Webb Marine Supply and Robert's main supplier, had hidden paperwork showing he switched his account to a mainland Brewer distributor three weeks before his disappearance.
