- Raymond Foster, a 14-year-old paperboy, found a mud trail up three porch steps to a back door left open by about four inches at 6:40 a.m, on June 8.
- Medical examiner placed Ruth Novak’s time of death between 6 and 10 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, making the boot-prints at least eight hours later.
- A $47.?? Henley’s Hardware receipt timestamped 4:18 p.m. on June 7 listed tarps, heavy zip-ties and a utility knife; the charge was on Ruth’s card though the card was missing from her wallet.
- Ruth’s size-seven boots sat dry and unworn at the front door while the outdoor prints matched roughly a size eight-boots that did not fit Ruth or her trucker husband, Carl Novak.
- Carl Novak was tracked by employer GPS and fuel receipts in Medford from June 5 onward, yet early suspicion focused on him until investigators followed the boots and receipts back through prior local deaths.
