The laminated FEMA card that unmoored a man's life and pulled him in

The laminated FEMA card that unmoored a man’s life and pulled him in this episode, we follow how a single laminated credential and a community relief group became the hinge that redirected a man’s routines, relationships, and finances. What happened between a dinner invitation and eight years of absence that left neighbors asking where he went?

Person: Richard Novak
Person: Alan Hunter
Event: Sycamore Creek flood (2003)
Date: April 4, 2011 (padlock noticed)
Location: Harwick Falls

- Donna Pryce delivered a handwritten dinner invitation on Remnant Relief Corps letterhead to Richard Novak in October 2003.
- Alan Hunter introduced himself at that dinner as a FEMA Liaison and produced a laminated card he carried to every meeting.
- Investigators found the Remnant Relief Corps logo had been printed six months before the flood it claimed to respond to.
- Novak signed membership paperwork that included a clause surrendering his bank routing number, buried on page nine in passive language.
- Over the next six years, $340,000 moved through the clause into twenty-eight accounts while Novak stopped attending his Tuesday woodworking meetings and became unreachable.
