- Nancy, a 23-year-old freight logistics coordinator, attended ceramics class April 6 from 7-9 PM; her unfinished bowl remained on the drying rack after class.
- Nancy did not show for work April 7-8; no welfare checks were made and her absence went unremarked at the depot.
- On April 9 at about 8:15 AM Lloyd Schultz found Nancy’s body in a dry creekbed two miles from the depot; time of death was placed between 10 PM and midnight April 6.
- Investigators pulled the logged suitcase from the system for inspection-and its contents shifted the direction of the inquiry in a way that contradicted initial expectations.
