Most people assume that the best followers make the best leaders. After all, if you’re great at supporting your leader, executing their vision, and helping the team succeed, shouldn’t those same skills make you a great leader?

But what if that’s the illusion?

In this episode of No More Illusions, Joe Kwon, The Connection Counselor, explores why following is not the same as leading—and why understanding the difference can make you a better leader.

You’ll learn:

• Why being a great follower doesn’t automatically make you a great leader
• The fundamental differences between following and leading
• Why some of the skills that make you successful as a follower may not be enough when you’re in charge
• What leaders must be willing to do that followers don’t

This episode is especially for high performers, emerging leaders, managers, and anyone who has ever wondered whether the skills that made them successful as a follower will prepare them to lead.

We also explore what it really takes to make the shift from supporting someone else’s leadership to taking responsibility for the direction, decisions, and outcomes of a team.
