  • Who Approved This? When The Room Misses What We See.
    2026/09/23
EP. 210 | THE ZEN EFFECT SHOW - CONSCIOUS TAKE

Target. Converse. Mielle. Starbucks. The Washington Commanders.

Different companies. Different controversies. Different communities.

But there's a question underneath moments like these that I can't stop thinking about: How does something make it through the room?

Major organizations don't operate with one person making every decision.

There are executives. Marketing departments. Creative teams. Agencies. Consultants. Legal teams.

Review processes. Multiple opportunities for someone to look at what's being created and ask:

Wait. How could this land with the people we're asking to support this brand?

And yet, sometimes the consumer becomes the person raising that question after the campaign, product, or message has already reached the public. So maybe the deeper conversation isn't simply about what went wrong.

Maybe it's about what is happening inside the rooms where decisions are being made.

    IN THIS CONVERSATION...

When the consumer becomes the final approval process, why does the public sometimes identify cultural or historical concerns after something has already traveled through layers of corporate review?

Who's in the room versus who's being heard because representation means something different when people also have the freedom to challenge an idea, disagree, and raise concerns.

Creating cultures where dissent has value : what changes when questioning an idea isn't treated as being difficult, but as part of making the work stronger.

Putting consideration at the center why understanding the human beings who experience your brand should be reflected in the culture, systems, and decisions behind it.

    THE QUESTION I'M SITTING WITH

Why does the consumer so often become the final approval process?

Did someone see the concern before it reached the public? Did someone raise it?

And if they did, was their voice taken seriously?

Because if you're asking people to become consumers of your brand, there's something that comes before the transaction: You have to consider them as human beings.

  • You Got The Seat But Did You Lose Your Voice?
    2026/09/23
EP. 210 | THE ZEN EFFECT SHOW

We talk a lot about getting a seat at the table. But what happens when you finally get there and somewhere along the way, you stop using your voice? Not because you don't see what's happening.

Not because you don't have something to say. But because you've learned to let certain things slide. You've learned what happens when you challenge the room. And maybe you've started believing that speaking costs more than staying quiet. That's where this conversation begins.

We're looking at major brands, corporate decisions, and the moments when consumers are left asking:

How did this make it through all those rooms? But we're not stopping at the headline.

Because we all have rooms. Our workplaces. Relationships. Friendships. Families. Communities.

And sometimes the bigger question isn't whether you have a seat.

It's whether you're still using your voice once you're there.

    IN THIS CONVERSATION...

When the consumer becomes the final approval process, examining how controversial decisions can travel through multiple layers of an organization before the public becomes the one questioning what made it through.

Having a seat isn't the same as having a voice why representation means something different when people also feel empowered to challenge, question, disagree, and bring their experiences into the room.

What you tolerate teaches how something we repeatedly let slide can eventually become normalized, expected, and woven into the culture around us.

You teach people how to experience you what our silence, communication, standards, and willingness to speak can teach a workplace, relationship, friendship, or family about what we'll continue to accept.

MY QUESTION TO YOU IS THIS

Where in your life do you have a seat at the table but you've stopped using your voice?

Where have you started letting things slide?

Where has silence started feeling easier than speaking?

And what has the room learned from what you haven't said?

Because getting the seat was never the whole point.

Your voice is part of why you're there.

  • Cam Newton Apologized to Black Women. Now What?
    2026/09/17
Cam Newton is publicly apologizing to Black women and acknowledging that he's still A Work in Progress. But another conversation runs beneath the apology: Do we actually give people room to evolve? During a conversation with actress Gail Bean, Cam reflected on the weight of his voice, some of his previous conversations around Black women and relationships, and how hearing Bean's experiences made him consider the world his own daughters may have to navigate.

And that raises a question. We can hold people accountable for what they've said and the impact they've had.

But what happens when they begin showing us something different?

    IN THIS CONVERSATION...

Cam Newton's apology to Black women and what his reflection opens up about influence, impact, and becoming more conscious of the weight of your voice.

Accountability without permanence: whether acknowledging someone's past means deciding they can never become someone different.

When perspective becomes personal and how hearing another person's experience can allow us to see what we couldn't see before.

Making room for evolution how we maintain our standards while remaining open to recognizing genuine growth.

MY QUESTION TO YOU IS THIS

Do we give people room to evolve?

What does accountability look like when someone is showing signs of growth?

Can you acknowledge what someone did without permanently defining them by it?

And how do you personally distinguish genuine evolution from an apology without changed behavior?

Maybe consciousness asks us to hold more than one truth at once:

What happened matters. What someone does next matters too.

  • What Are You Waiting For To Force You To Move?
    2026/09/17

    EP. 209

How long do we stay in jobs, relationships, routines, environments, and even versions of ourselves simply because nothing has happened yet that feels "big enough" to make us leave?

And what is waiting costing us?

Why do we wait for something to push us out before we allow ourselves to move?

Truth is, the awareness is enough. You can recognize what no longer fits, become conscious of the pattern, and choose to move before the pattern makes the decision for you.

    IN THIS CONVERSATION...

What you tolerate teaches and how repeated acceptance can quietly become the standard you live inside.

Why we wait until something pushes us out and what Cam Newtons public reflection opens up about accountability, impact, listening, and growth.

When comfort becomes expensive from relationships and careers to the places, experiences, and possibilities we keep postponing.

Moving before life moves you, recognizing what no longer fits and choosing your next step before circumstances choose it for you.

MY QUESTION TO YOU IS THIS

    • What are you waiting for to push you out of something you already know youve outgrown?
    • What have you become so comfortable with that youve stopped questioning it?
    • Where are you waiting for another person, company, circumstance, or consequence to make a decision that already belongs to you?
    • And what could change if awareness became enough to move?
    • Because the comfort you never question can quietly become the life you never intended to live.

  • DON LEMON: The System Let Him Go. The Audience Didn't
    2026/09/09

What happens when the platform that gave you visibility is no longer the platform you need?

In this Conscious Take, were talking about Don Lemon, independence, authenticity, and what happens when you stop performing for a system that was never designed to hold the full version of you.

After more than a decade at CNN, Don Lemon stepped into independent media and began building something of his own. And honestly? I didnt really care for Don Lemon until he went independent.

Why? Because now, we get to see more of Don. I celebrate his TV return on his own terms and creating opportunities for others.

His voice. His perspective. His personality. His point of view. Without the same corporate filter or network structure defining the boundaries of how he shows up.

  • YOU CAN NOT HIDE FROM YOURSELF
    2026/09/09
    Ep. 208 THE CONVERSATION

You can not hide from yourself. Everywhere you go, there you are. - Teddy Pendergrass

Those words from Teddy Pendergrass become the doorway into a much bigger conversation about authenticity, freedom, identity, and the spaces we enter every day.

Because what happens when the environment around you doesn't make room for the full version of who you are?

    Do you shrink?

    Do you code-switch?

    Do you perform?

    Do you become more acceptable?

Or do you eventually decide to build something that allows you to show up differently?

That's where Don Lemon enters this conversation.

After more than a decade at CNN, Lemon moved into independent media, building his own platform and connecting directly with an audience beyond the traditional network structure.

And what became interesting wasn't simply the career move.

It was what the move revealed.

What happens when the corporate filter comes off?

What happens when the institution no longer gets to define the version of you the audience sees?

The same conversation emerges around Joy Reid and other media figures who have moved from traditional outlets into independent platforms.

Maybe it's about what happens when the structure you were working inside no longer fits who you're becoming.

Strategy is necessary for navigating a system.

INSIDE THIS CONVERSATION: WHAT'S YOUR TAKE?

How Don Lemon's move into independent media raises a larger conversation about what happens when the institutional filter disappears.

Why looking at uncomfortable emotions can become part of making peace with yourself.

How performing for acceptance can create a life that looks successful while feeling disconnected.

Why choosing yourself doesn't always mean abandoning strategy, it can mean becoming more intentional about where and how you use it.

What it means to build your own space when an existing space no longer aligns.

SHAPE YOUR SOUL. SHIFT YOUR WORLD. COME HOME TO YOUR POWER.

  • Tupac Got Justice. But Why Did It Take 30 Years?
    2026/09/03
MY QUESTION TO YOU IS THIS What does justice mean when it finally arrives 30 years after the loss? THE CONVERSATION What the Tupac case can teach us about looking beneath the headline and asking what this story reveals to us and about us. For nearly three decades, Tupac Shakur's murder lived in that strange space between tragedy, mystery, cultural mythology, and an unanswered question. Now there is a verdict. The jury found Duane Keffe D Davis guilty of first-degree murder in connection with the 1996 killing of Tupac Shakur, marking the first conviction in the case. Davis was accused of orchestrating the shooting, though prosecutors did not allege that he personally pulled the trigger. And yes, there is something significant about that. Because for 30 years, people have asked: Who was responsible? Why did this happen? Why did it take so long? But The Zen Effect Show isn't only interested in the verdict. We're interested in what the verdict reveals. Because sometimes the biggest story isn't simply what happened. It's what happens after years of waiting for an answer. Tupac wasn't simply a rapper. He became part of the cultural conversation about injustice, identity, violence, survival, power, contradiction, and the realities of being young, Black, ambitious, outspoken, and human in America. So when a case connected to him finally reaches a courtroom conclusion three decades later, it touches something much bigger than one criminal proceeding. It touches memory. It touches grief. It touches accountability. It touches trust in institutions. And it raises a question we don't always want to ask: What does justice look like when time has already changed everything? There is also another layer. The prosecution's case relied heavily on statements Davis made publicly over the years, including accounts of his involvement that prosecutors used against him. Which brings us to the complicated relationship between silence, truth, accountability, and time. SHAPE YOUR SOUL. SHIFT YOUR WORLD. COME HOME TO YOUR POWER. • When the thing you wanted stops fitting your life.
    2026/09/02

    EP. 207

MY QUESTION TO YOU IS THIS

Have you ever been frustrated in the middle of a blessing because the blessing hadn't flourished into what its meant to be yet?

    - What has changed: the situation, your expectations, or who you've become?

    - What part of that blessing still fits your lifeand what part feels ready to evolve?

    - Have you ever mistaken evolution for dissatisfaction?

THE CONVERSATION : This episode of The Zen Effect Show explores the uncomfortable space between gratitude and evolution. Maybe the lifestyle you worked so hard to create belongs to an earlier version of you And maybe frustration isn't telling you to throw everything away or change course, maybe it's telling you to look closer.

This conversation moves through the idea that blessings can ask us to expand, not simply become comfortable inside them. In this episode, I also take that same lens into culture.

TRUTH IS: You can evolve without rewriting history.

You can change your mind without being ungrateful.

    And sometimes frustration isn't rejection.

    Sometimes frustration is information.

    Maybe the question isn't:

    Why am I so frustrated?

    Maybe the better question is:

What is this frustration trying to show me?

INSIDE THIS CONVERSATION: WHAT'S YOUR TAKE?

How frustration can become information instead of something we immediately try to silence.

Why the blessings is now asking to be expanded, repurposed, or experienced differently.

Pheromone-maxxingand why the conversation may actually be less about scent and more about the over-thirst to be desired.

Why chemistry may get someone close, but intention, compatibility, and matching capacity determine what happens next.

What Erykah Badu's ever-changing vessel perspective teaches us about reinvention and becoming.

What hyper-realistic pregnancy dolls may reveal about grief, desire, motherhood, connection, and human coping.

Why looking beneath the obvious story can change the way we understand ourselves and each other.
