On Christmas Eve 1998, Luna stopped at a farmhouse outside Danville, Ohio to buy a wreath from an old woman named Hilda. The wreath was made of yew and holly, bound with red ribbon and small brass bells. Hilda said it would keep the house safe through the longest night. But the bells kept ringing even after Luna hung it on her door. Each ring pulled her to the window, where she saw a figure waiting at the edge of the woods. By midnight, the wreath had changed — the ribbon was frayed, the bells were tarnished, and the yew needles had turned black. Luna never took it down.
