Jesus is speaking about lust in this passage. Lust can separate us from our spouses and Jesus when it becomes central to our lives.

No sacrifice of anything that separates us from Jesus is too great. The only route forward is to obey Jesus.

Whether physical or spiritual swords, we need to be gentle Gospel sharers. Always handle the Gospel in an honorable way.

Pay attention to the adjective/adverb discussion, it is quite insightful. A man after God's own choosing - 1 Samuel 8

The repentance of David is critical to understanding this phrase. Jesus is very clear on this.

Don't let the names trip you up! They have a purpose for the book they are in.

Resist the temptation to skip the genealogies, they are an acquired taste.

Remember God's plan and faithfulness are on display!

Adam is referred to in the New Testament by Jesus and Paul confirming his existence.

Genesis testifies to the one and only God from the first verse and we see the world as good.

God entrusts us with responsibility for His creation.

The text often refers to itself and explains the passage. The ideal Bible reader is the rereader.

Use resources like a study Bible or online searches. Don't exaggerate the significance of a word or passage.

Be on guard of putting yourself above the Bible!
