  • 234. If You Can't Answer "What Do You Want"
    2026/09/03
We're taught that needs are legitimate and wants are indulgent.

This episode takes that apart. Mechelle teaches the root chakra as the home of our needs — the foundation of physical thriving — and the throat chakra as the home of our wants — the foundation of spiritual thriving, and explores why the two are a circuit rather than a ladder.

Plus: the difference between ask culture and guess culture, why hinting is a root-chakra strategy doing a throat-chakra job, and the request hiding underneath every hint. You'll learn how to tell a need from a want in your own body, and why resentment is almost always an unspoken want.

Closes with a guided practice: Ground and Ask.

Keywords: root chakra, throat chakra, needs vs wants, ask culture guess culture, energy healing, nervous system regulation, self-expression, communication styles, spiritual thriving, guided practice, somatic practice, desire

  • 233. An Uncontrolled Experiment: Mark Michaels on Secrecy Psychedelics and Rewriting Your Story
    2026/08/27
Content note: This episode includes discussion of suicidal ideation, violent crime, and psychedelic-assisted therapy. Please take care of yourself while listening. Nothing here is medical advice.

Mark Michaels was conceived by donor insemination in 1958 and didn't find out until he was past thirty. He calls himself an uncontrolled experiment — half joking, but only half. The medical advice at the time was to keep it secret, mix the sperm to muddy the paternity, count a live birth as success, and assume everyone would forget.

Mechelle sits down with him for a conversation. They talk about what happens when the story you were never told still lives in your body. About the ten-week intensive — ketamine with EMDR, MDMA sessions, treatment goals he set and then blew past — that did more for him than decades of previous therapy. About the therapist who ended things the moment he wanted to try something new, and the one before that who fell asleep during sessions and denied it.

Mark discovered his fundamental attachment style is secure. Strongly so. He had spent years assuming he was anxiously attached, reading his whole life through the lens of trauma. What he's doing now is rewriting that narrative — not to deny what happened, but to see how good it actually was underneath it. That leads somewhere provocative. Mark argues there are narrative channels we get funneled into and advocates taking control of your own story, whatever that story turns out to be.

  • 232. Mentally STRONG: When Knowing Everything Isn't Enough with Dr. Cristi Bundukamara
    2026/08/20
Watch the video version in the wholeness library. What do you do when you have all the training, all the credentials, all the right answers — and none of it holds when your own life falls apart?Dr. Cristi Bundukamara — "Dr. B" — is a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner, retired Navy veteran, and mother of seven who has buried three of her children. When her son Johnny drowned, when Reggie's DRPLA took him, when Miah died in her sleep with no warning, the coping skills she'd taught for decades weren't enough. What finally cracked something open was her mother's suggestion on a night she'd broken down crying: try journaling.Out of that irritated, exhausted, one-page attempt came the Thought Map — and eventually the Mentally STRONG Method, now used with thousands of people. In this conversation, Dr. B walks Mechelle through a live Thought Map on the air, using a real thought Mechelle is carrying about stepping into The Wholeness Network solo. It's a rare thing to watch a method get demonstrated rather than described. We explore: Why academic knowledge and protective factors weren't enough — and what was missing The Thought Map: "twenty years of journaling in twenty minutes" How to separate grief from trauma, and why you should never try to release the grief "Controlled grief" — feeling the pain on purpose, at your pace Why she'd decline EMDR on her children's deaths Doing energy work for her son and realizing she was the one receiving the benefit Where the culture's "just stay strong" message breaks people Mentally STRONG: https://mentallystrong.com Dr. B's site: https://cristibundukamara.mentallystrong.com Documentary — Strength in Vulnerability: https://mentallystrong.com/strength-in-vulnerability/ YouTube — Mentally STRONG by Dr. B: https://www.youtube.com/@CristiBundukamara LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/cristibundukamara/ Book — Pain & Purpose: My Journey to Mental Strength More on the Method: https://www.mentallystrong.com/choice-mapping/ Can't Hurt Me by David Goggins DRPLA (dentatorubral-pallidoluysian atrophy), the rare neurodegenerative condition in Dr. B's family Links & ResourcesExclusive for TWN listeners — Dr. B created a free Thought Map guide just for this audience, plus a link to book a discovery call to walk through your map: → wholeness.mentallystrong.com Explore The Wholeness Library App FREE!
