  • This is The Well :: Launch Sunday
    2026/08/23

On Launch Sunday at The Well Church Frederick, Pastor Jermaine Keller opens with a personal story about hiding from being known by God during the season before planting the church. From there he takes us to John 4 and the woman who came to the well at noon not by accident but by strategy. Through her encounter with Jesus we see what it looks like when God meets someone exactly where they are hiding. This message introduces the DNA of The Well and what it means to Live Jesus, Love Well, and Believe Beyond.

Then in Matthew 5, Jesus cuts through the first-century habit of oath loopholes — swearing by heaven, by earth, by your own head — and says simply: let what you say be yes or no. A person of real integrity (Hebrew: emet) doesn't need an oath. Their yes is already yes.

The Hebrew word for that happened is miqreh — on the surface it means chance or coincidence. But the ancient rabbis concluded there's no such thing as coincidence for the people of God. What looks random from the outside is divine arrangement from the inside.

Boaz tells Ruth she's found refuge under God's kanaf (wings) — the same word later used when Boaz spreads his own garment over her as protection. God's shelter, made visible in an ordinary man on an ordinary morning.
