  • The Brad Ad — Welfare, Work, and the Backlash | The Weekly Verdict 13
    2026/10/02

Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ reelection ad introduces Brad: indoors, playing video games, living off the taxpayer, until a welfare-to-work rule gets him a job. The policy is the one Republicans have argued for years — if you can work, welfare is a safety net, not a lifestyle. “If you will not work, you will not eat.” Arkansas unemployment has been falling, and Sanders is hardly the only official pushing work requirements.

The online response, especially from young men and gamers, treated the casting as the story. Sterling and Thomas walk through why. For decades, dumb husbands and couch-potato men were the culturally safe punchline. DEI treated straight white men as the one group you did not have to worry about offending. Fortune 500 hiring pledges, university admissions, and majority-minority districts made that feel structural, not just rhetorical. The hosts separate perception from reality: trade and manufacturing jobs are coming back, but the offshoring that wiped out a natural path for a lot of young men was real.

From there the conversation gets thornier. Is a generalized claim of disadvantage the same thing as reparations? Can you prove a hiring harm if nobody wrote the reason down? What does a justice system built on innocence until proven guilty do with group grievance? They contrast chosen victim identity with innate group membership, citizenship with non-citizen priority, and the Lindsay Clancy trial as a case where women said an under-recognized experience had to be named. Then the practical question: if every group will punish you for depicting them as the freeloader, do you show the statistically typical case, or do you pick the “safe” one?

The verdicts: the ad was a bad way to sell a good policy, the point mostly got lost, and they split on whether any identitarianism is justified once everyone else is playing that game.

  • Trump at the UN — America First, Globalism Last | Weekly Verdict 12
    2026/09/25

Donald Trump’s address to the United Nations was less a diplomatic courtesy and more a status report: America is bigger, stronger, and cleaning up problems other nations and prior administrations kicked down the road. Sterling and Andrew walk through the speech point by point — the playground-bully framing, the list of foreign-policy results in roughly 18 months, and the blunt language on Iran, Venezuela, Cuba, China, and the Western Hemisphere.

They cover Operation Absolute Resolve and the capture of Nicolás Maduro; claims that a huge share of the world’s oil now sits under U.S. influence; Greenland, missile defense, and northern shipping lanes; the Iran nuclear file and the Strait of Hormuz; and Trump’s line that he will not let problems fester. The conversation then turns to the larger clash: patriotic nationalism versus the globalist project that has shaped the UN, Europe, Canada, and much of the press. Canada’s immigration numbers and Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) statistics get a hard look, as do Spain’s border reality, Mexico’s cartels, and China’s bid to split the West while chasing Taiwan and AI.

The hosts close with the episode’s verdict question: as the UN currently stands, does the United States even want its approval — and should it?

  • Lindsay Clancy's Hung Jury | Weekly Verdict 11
    2026/09/18

The Lindsay Clancy murder trial ended in a mistrial after the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict on whether she was criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children. But the case has raised questions that extend well beyond one courtroom. Thomas, Sterling, and Andrew cover the victims, justice, the holdout juror, and what all this means. Note: This episode addresses disturbing subject matter, including the deaths of children.
