There are moments when God gives a warning that is difficult to hear, but ignoring that warning can have eternal consequences. In this powerful message, Brother Bobby Whitehead preaches from Proverbs 1:22-33 about God’s reproof, the danger of rejecting His Word, and the urgent need to get right with God while there is still time.
Proverbs 1 gives a sobering picture of what happens when people repeatedly refuse God’s correction. The Lord says, “Turn you at my reproof,” but some set His counsel at naught and refuse His reproof. The message makes clear that reproof is not meant to destroy us. It exposes what is wrong and calls us back to righteousness. God reaches out through His Word and the Holy Spirit, giving people opportunities to repent and change.
Brother Bobby emphasizes that simply sitting in church, hearing preaching, or repeatedly coming to an altar does not replace genuine repentance. If God reveals sin in our lives but we refuse to change, we are rejecting the very correction He has given us. The warning is that there can come a time when a person has resisted God’s voice for so long that they no longer respond to His call.
Proverbs 1:26-31 describes the terrible consequences of continually rejecting God’s counsel. The time may come when those who refused to listen will call upon Him, but will not find the answer they once had the opportunity to receive. They will “eat of the fruit of their own way” and be filled with their own devices. This is a serious reminder that sin should never be treated casually and that eternity matters far more than anything we can gain in this life.
The sermon also addresses the danger of outward religion without inward transformation. A person can appear clean on the outside while harboring sin in the heart. God sees what people cannot see. His Word and His Spirit expose the condition of the inner man and call us to deal honestly with what He reveals.
Brother Bobby shares personal testimony about the mercy God showed him and the many opportunities he had to come to Christ before accepting Jesus in 2011. His concern throughout the message is not condemnation, but the salvation of souls. He stresses that no preacher can save anyone. Each person must respond to Jesus Christ and believe in Him for themselves.
The message closes with a direct call to repentance. God has given life, breath, opportunity, His Word, and the conviction of the Holy Spirit. If God is dealing with your heart, don’t push Him away. Don’t allow pride, the devil, or continued disobedience to keep you from getting right with God.
“Repent or perish” is not a message to ignore. The most important question is not what we possess, what others think about us, or what we accomplish on earth. The question is whether we are ready to stand before God.
Listen carefully to this urgent warning from Proverbs 1 and examine your heart. If God is speaking to you, respond while there is still an opportunity. Get right with God today.
