Tanya Brooks is a Mi’kmaq woman from Millbrook First Nation, a mother of five, and a deeply loved sister and daughter. People who knew her describe an artist and a writer with aspirations in poetry. We talk about the challenges she faced, the horrendous assault she experienced and her eventual murder thereafter which happened while she was on her road to recovery.
We also take a moment to respect the relentless advocacy of Vanessa Brooks, memorial walks, and the broader MMIWG2S+ crisis in Canada, including the statistics that of how Indigenous women and girls are still at risk today.
The case remains active, with rewards of up to $150,000 is available through Nova Scotia’s Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program. If you listen and this stays with you, please subscribe, leave a review, and share Tanyas story to help keep her name in the light.
