Synopsis: This evening (9/16/26), in our Wednesday night Tehilim shiur, after a few off-topic introductory reflections, we reviewed our perek and got to work trying to "land the plane." We reviewed the translation of the perek according to the Radak, then reviewed the key Radaks from last time and read the ones we didn't have time to get to. Then we attempted to come up with a Grand Theory of the perek based on the Radak. That "based on the Radak" part was the real challenge: it was SO tempting to incorporate the many ideas and themes about Rosh ha'Shanah we're familiar with ... but we had to face the fact that the Radak didn't mention any of them. We ended up with two approaches, both of which were good, and neither of which were complete. I'm happy with this round, and I look forward to the next time I get to think about this!

After a quick review of our Claude-Radakified translation, we raised a few major questions, then went straight to the Radak. I had pre-selected the key comments necessary to appreciate the thrust of his approach, which sheds a new and wild light on shofar and Rosh ha'Shanah. If you want something tantalizing to think about this year, make sure to check this shiur out before Rosh ha'Shanah starts. Next time, in our third and final session on this perek, our goal will be to answer our major questions and "land the plane."

Synopsis: This evening (9/2/26), in our first Wednesday night Tehilim shiur of the season, we began learning a perek from the daily AND annual liturgy! I chose it because Rosh ha'Shanah is right around the corner and I remembered there being a really good Rosh ha'Shanah insight here, but I have very little recollection of what it is. This time we spent almost the entire time on the somewhat difficult translations, then attempted to identify the pivot point. At the very end I teased the Radak's introduction to the perek, which was the source of my Rosh ha'Shanah insights, but we'll have to wait until next time to pursue that.
