Amarah’s anxiety and anger increased with each passing moment. The Navy was searching her home for her husband DJ Flip, they had uncovered the truth about the colossal seahorse monster, and they were also searching for Sphinx Bazel. They intended to take Amarah in for questioning. Amarah remained calm, hoping they would locate her husband, and decided to accompany them to address their inquiries. She brought her baton with her, which served not only as a weapon but also as a phone and could be extended. She anxiously awaited a call from her husband. All she could tell the Navy personnel was that her husband had vanished with the seahorse monster and Bazel into the underground level. The officers kept Amarah away from her home for a while as they conducted their investigation.

The Navy discovered a trail leading from the underground floor. They boarded their naval ship to pursue the three individuals they were searching for. Amarah was aware that some of the Navy personnel were corrupt, while others, retired and serving on another ship, were good friends with her husband.

Amarah asked, “Where are we going?” Captain Bill replied, “To Africa.”
The ship navigated the river near the mountains where Amarah lived. Meanwhile, the retired Navy crew followed behind on another ship, hoping to locate Flip first. Amarah journeyed alongside Captain Bill and his crew, wishing to join the retired team on their ship.

During the voyage, Amarah rested in her cabin alone. When she awoke, she found one of the Navy men searching through her duffle bag. He was drunk and trying to take her baton.
“Put that back!” Amarah shouted. She was skilled in reclaiming the baton from the intoxicated man and was well-versed in using it. That night, she charged at him, causing him to cry out in pain and wake the captain.

Story: Sphinx Bazel in Africa 2
Story by Gail Nobles © 2025

Days turned into weeks. The women, their initial fear slowly giving way to curiosity, brought Bazel food: fruits he didn't recognize, roasted tubers, and sometimes, small, cooked animals.

One day, the eldest woman, the one who had saved his life, approached the cage. She held out a clay bowl filled with water. Instead of just setting it down, she knelt, her eyes meeting his. She dipped a cloth into the water and gently wiped his face, removing the grime and sand that had accumulated. It was a simple act of kindness, of recognition, of shared humanity. Bazel reached out and gently took the cloth from her, mirroring her action. He washed his own face, then offered the cloth back to her.

A small, hesitant smile flickered across the woman's face. Over time, understanding bloomed. He learned to communicate in simple ways, drawing in the sand, using gestures, slowly picking up a few words of their language. He learned about their lives, their traditions, their fears, and their joys. He helped them with their crops, sharing knowledge from his world, and in turn, he learned from them the ancient wisdom of survival and strength.

One day, after many moons had passed, the woman approached the cage. She held a knife. Fear gripped Bazel, but he saw not malice in her eyes, but sorrow. With a silent nod, she cut the vines that held the cage together.

    He was free.

He could have left, returned to his old life, told his incredible story. But something had changed within him. He had learned something profound about the human spirit, about the power of compassion, about the interconnectedness of all things. He chose to stay. He had found a new home, a new family, a new understanding of himself and the world.

The cage that imprisons us is not always made of vines or bars. Often, it is built of fear, prejudice, and a failure to recognize the shared humanity in those who seem different. True freedom comes not from escape, but from the willingness to see beyond our own limitations and to embrace the kindness that can be found in the most unexpected of places, even within the faces of those we initially fear. For it is in understanding the "other" that we truly understand ourselves, and only then can we unlock the cage that binds our hearts.

Sphinx Bazel traveled extremely fast speed down one of the streams emerged from the aquarium room floor below through a tunnel fighting the seahorse monster. He nearly drowned and alone ended up in Africa. The sea monster had magical powers that caused instant teleportation. Bazel’s body laid on the sand. Some African women stood around him. To them, Bazel was handsome. The eldest of the women gave him CPR. His brain was suffering from lack of oxygen. She tried to restore oxygen flow. The Egyptian nearly drowned. The women feared Bazel as he opened his eyes and came through, and they put him in a large cage to feed him.

Bazel woke with a gasp, sand clinging to his eyelashes. He coughed, seawater sputtering out of his lungs. Blinking, he focused on the dark faces peering through the bars of a cage woven from thick vines. Confusion warred with terror. He remembered the aquarium room, the surge of water, the bizarre seahorse monster… and then nothing. Now, he was here, a strange, gawked-at specimen in a foreign land.

    Search Warrant Beneath the Surface

Days passed without a word from DJ Flip since he descended into the underground floor. Navy officers approached Amarah regarding her husband, aware that he was likely with an enemy. Their suspicions grew, as they had been monitoring the house and knew about the underground floor. Armed with a search warrant, they proceeded to inspect the premises. Overwhelmed with fear, Amarah allowed them to conduct their search, expressing her concern for her husband's safety and her lack of knowledge about how the floor operated. The Navy officers soon discovered the mechanism: the center of the floor had disconnected from the second level, descending to the third. The aquarium room was located on the second floor, and the method of access was kept concealed. Three streams, resembling water, emerged from the floor below, but the Navy men didn't inquire further since they were in the underground area. These streams were actually fast-moving currents that led through tunnels. They were like railways because the 3rd floor was like a roundhouse.

Meanwhile, back in Flip City, Miss Grady was just about to take the twisted sponge rollers out of her hair, but her phone began to ring and it was Amara. She answered: Hello.

    Amarah: Hello

Miss Grady:You don’t sound too thrilled. What’s the matter?

Amarah: I know you’re not going to believe me.Miss Grady: Try me and see.
Amarah: We’ll, it’s about Flip. He’s always building. He made an underground aquarium room to the house, and there’s this underground floor. He sent two enemies of his down there, and now he’s gone after them. I don’t know if I’ll see Flip again. Miss Grady: We’ll now, let me tell you something honey. Don’t you go down there?

    Amarah: I’m not.

Miss Grady: Girl, you know what a man’s Gotta do. Sometimes you gotta send folks packing even if it involves a little trip that’s under the floor. Just make sure the vacuum cleaner doesn’t go looking for him or you might find that enemies angry spirit in your living room.

Amarah: Miss Grady, This isn’t a joke. Flip is no ordinary man that does ordinary things. He’s a part of the spiritual realm.

Miss Grady: Thar doesn’t surprise me none! I had a husband the same way. Flip knows the story.

Amarah: We’ll, what did you do? What can I do?

Miss Grady: Chile, you can’t worry about that man.

Amarah: What if he doesn’t come back?

Miss Grady: He’ll find his way back. And darling when he does, don’t worry about putting down that welcome mat. Just in case you wanna send him right back, you know how men can be, always up to something. And remember, if your husband‘s dealing with enemies, make sure he keeps the underworld drama off the living room rug, Ain’t nobody got time for cleaning up after a ghostly guest. Trust me, he’ll be back. He’s all right.

As Bazel and Murdochy the seahorse man stood arguing, DJ Flip’s mind spiraled with thoughts of revenge. He focused on Murdochy, imagining him in pain and helplessness. DJ Flip envisioned a trap, one that would send both the seahorse man and Bazel into the depths of the underworld. With the turn of a knob, he created a mesmerizing illusion, pulling the two enemies into a spiral of sound.

DJ Flip: “Let the realms below claim those who covet my life!” DJ Flip said to himself as the music stopped. The floor beneath the feet of him and his wife began to spin violently as they stood on the edge of the floor that didn’t move. The spin created a whirlpool spectrum of light. At that moment, the illusion shimmered, and Murdochy and Bazel vanished.

Instead of triumph, Flip felt an emptiness gnaw at his heart. In his pursuit of vengeance, he had lost sight of the love he shared with Amarah. As the music faded, he glanced toward her, only to find her expression clouded with sorrow rather than joy.

Amarah: “Jeffrey, what have you done?” she asked, voice trembling. “You sought to rid us of threats, but at what cost? Your heart was once filled with love, not hatred.”

DJ Flip felt like he was going to crumble. The reality of his actions was striking him like a bitter tide. As the echoes of his melody turned into whispers of despair, he realized that jealousy had blinded him to the thought of love. It wasn’t just Bazel he had condemned to the underworld; it was part of his own soul.

DJ Flip was down in the aquarium room with Amarah, and they both heard a rumbling noise. Amarah’s eyes became large and she asked: Flip, did you hear that noise?

Flip: Yea! There’s a vibration coming from the floor.

The aquarium room had a movable floor but it didn’t rumble and vibrate or move. Suddenly appeared Murdochy coming through the hole of the floor which was the elevator floor. His form looked like water and a hologram. He had eyes and eyebrows like a wicked genie, and his head was like the head of a seahorse.

This time nothing startled DJ Flip. He felt he had gone through the worst dealing with Ghost Boogie which is his foe of the past. He said angrily with his hands on his hip: I’ve got another enemy invading my home.

Amarah was frightened. She hid behind her brave husband.

Murdochy: Now you wait a minute little fella! You are on my property! You’ve got to move these walls and floors.

Flip: I don’t see no sign stuck in the mud and water with your name on it! This is my property! Ain’t nobody gonna barge in my home telling me to move nothing!

Sphinx Bazel stood behind the aquarium room door peeping and easedropping. He thought: This is gonna be good!

Murdochy continued to speak: I will ruin any enemy that invades beneath the water. You may own the land, but I’m the chief down here. I am Murdochy and my word is law.

    Amarah began to speak nervously.

Amarah: Leave us alone. This is our home.

Murdochy: Shut up! This is Murdochy and man talk. You but out woman.

Flip: Hey! Wait! You don’t talk to my wife like that!

DJ Flip picked up a large fishing spear with pole he kept against the wall made of iron.
But Sphinx Bazel walked in saying: Knock! Knock! I saw something strange outside of the house, Flip, and I was wondering was everything alright. The front door was unlocked. I thought I heard something, and I decided to check things out.

When Murdochy laid eyes on Sphinx Bazel, he recognized him.

    Murdochy: Bazel

Sphinx Bazel: And who are you? How do you know my name.

Murdochy: You’re the shark killer. I know just who you are. You are an enemy and you must die.

Amarah and Flip stood looking surprised looking from Murdochy to Sphinx Bazel.
