This account details the tragic 2022 homicide of Madison Sawyer, a heavily pregnant woman from American Fork, Utah, who was murdered just days before her due date. The investigation became a dual search for a killer and a missing newborn after authorities discovered the victim's baby had been surgically removed from her womb. Detectives initially scrutinized the victim's estranged boyfriend and her employer before a miraculous breakthrough occurred when the infant was found alive and healthy at a nearby hotel. Evidence eventually identified Taylor Hawkins, a chiropractic receptionist obsessed with Sawyer’s pregnancy, as the perpetrator who had stalked the victim online to fulfill a disturbing maternal fantasy. Hawkins was ultimately convicted of aggravated murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole. While the child survived and was initially raised by her great-grandfather, the story concludes with the family's ongoing struggle to preserve Madison’s memory amidst further personal loss and displacement.
