A surviving 1880 English volume promises “Moses’ magical spirit-art,” invoking Cabala, the Talmud, seals, sacred names, and hidden knowledge beyond the familiar five books of Moses. But its pages lead backward not to an authenticated ancient manuscript, but to German magical publishing, earlier unstable witnesses, and identifiable nineteenth-century sources.
